Eminem - Encore

I think that this album was ALMOST really good, there are a lot of songs here I like and I think it's kinda overhated as a whole...but good god the middle of this album is the worst thing he ever put out.
I'm just gonna say it, Big Weenie, Puke, Ass Like That, My 1st Single, Rain Man and Just Lose It (which I didn't really mind on it's own but god put right after those other songs it's awful) are worse than every song on Revival, these 6 songs are enough to lower my rating by 20+ points, they are just so fucking bad, Puke is disgusting with it's puking sound effects (tf was he thinking there), Rain Man has an awful beat and is super boring, Big Weenie is as face palm and eye roll inducing as Eminem can get, Just Lose It is trying waaaay too hard to be super edgy but outside of the chorus most of the song isn't that fun, and also the beat gets stale really fast and then we have Ass Like That...

Now if you didn't cringe at least 20 times while reading that then...good for you idk but this shit is stupid af and not in a funny way. These 6 songs are album breaking, the tone is completely fucked cuz of em, it becomes a huge mess cuz of them.

But you know the rest of the songs aren't actually that bad imo. The first 3 songs are quality Eminem tracks, I like the beats personally and his rapping and flow is on point. Like Toy Soldiers, Mosh and Mockingbird show off that he is maturing more, well in the context of the album not at all (overall he did kinda the opposite...) but on their own these songs should make it clear that Eminem is maturing and evolving in a way. One Shot 2 Shot I thought was pretty fun, Encore/Curtains Down is a pretty awesome closer. Crazy In Love is decent too y'know, there are enough highlights on this album to keep it from being downright awful for me but the bad songs here are just like 1/10 tracks so it's hard to justify the album as a whole, if you take those 6 songs out you got yourself an album that, sure is a bit dated, but shows off enough of his strengths and some evolution that it's hard not to say this as a decent entry into his catalog. But as it is, very hit or miss, the hits are either decent or some of his best songs and the misses are his worst stuff by quite a bit.

Okay but I will say this though, this album is anything but unmemorable and it's def an interesting album. It sits in a weird place in his catalogue, it doesn't have nearly as many defenders as Relapse but also isn't exactly hated like Revival, it's one of his most divisive albums but I feel like even the defenders of this album have to admit it's not a very cohesive and consistent album, seriously putting Mockingbird 5 minutes after Ass Like That is just dumb as shit. I can see it kinda growing on me as...you know there are 10 songs I enjoy here but as it stands it's just kinda meh.
