Ariana Grande - Sweetener

Ariana takes on a new direction throughout this album, and while it's a little bit different and risky, it's spawned some of her best work.

Whether it's the introduction, 'raindrops (an angel cried),' with beautifully stunning vocals, or singles 'no tears left to cry' and 'breathin',' the album has some of Ariana's best work to date.
However, some things don't sit down well with this album.

First of all, the collabs are some of the weakest tracks on the album. 'blazed (ft. pharell)' has a nice vocal synth by Ariana, going "Once I have you, I'll never let you go..." but most of the song seems very filler-ish. Followed up is 'the light is coming (ft. nicki minaj),' which is a decent song if you can get past the constant clip of the guy saying "You wouldn't let anybody else speak, and instead!-" 'borderline (ft. missy elliot)' is also extremely weak, as Ariana's verses don't flow that well, and Missy sounds extremely bored with her part, for the 18 seconds she's on the song.

Highlights of the album include 'R.E.M.,' which is just a nice relaxing song to listen to, singles 'God is a woman,' 'no tears left to cry,' and 'breathin',' as well as toned-down songs 'goodnight n' go,' 'better off,' and everytime.'

Other songs include 'successful,' a somewhat underwhelming song about female empowerment (I think, at least.), 'sweetener,' which is catchy, but has some odd sounds made by Pharell in the background, and a bop-it sounding chorus, 'pete davidson,' a short song dedicated to her ex-fiance, and 'get well soon,' a song with 40 seconds of silence at the end to mark a length of 5:22, which honors the victims of the Manchester bombing.

Overall, as an album, it's not her strongest, but it has produced some of Ariana's best work as she continues to excel as a modern pop icon.

Essential Tracks: R.E.M., God is a woman, everytime, breathin', no tears left to cry, better off, goodnight n' go
Least Essential Tracks: blazed, the light is coming, successful, borderline, pete davidson
