“BALLADS 1” walked so “Nectar” could run …but I suppose it runs for his NEXT album to fly! Yes, in fact the hype surrounding this album was not met, but evidently, “Nectar” is an improvement on all fronts for Joji. The issue though, is that he underestimates his talents majorly, as greatness does lie beneath the surface…

This LP has had one of the most consistently engaging and exciting lead-ups imaginable. “Run” is by darn it, ... read more

100% PURE UNCUT ROCK --> ...but for real this time!

Idles birth a savagely honest and astonishingly sincere piece of post-punk revelry, that smacks you in the face, but quickly proceeds to pass you some ice and a chocolate bar of wisdom. The pounding drums, simple arrangements and truly distinct vocal deliveries on "Ultra Mono" make for a wild but enlightening experience, perhaps one of the most meaningful head-banging sessions you'll ever have!

I must admit this is my first ... read more

September's 'REDUX' Review:

It’s been 161 days since this album came out, and I think I just might be starting to understand its genius!? What started out as a disappointment in my mind is beginning to morph into a new opportunity. This is an LP with no aesthetic restrictions, a plain album cover and no proper track-listing. It's not about order or cohesivity or digestibility. It's all about our aggravating times! How our patterns of violence and disregard for compassion is NEVER-ENDING ... read more

Vulnerability is key on Sevdaliza’s new minimalist, trip-hop opus, “Shabrang”. With lush, romantic instrumentation and silky, emotion-ridden vocals, this LP is an art-pop experience that is assured to have you in a daze.

This record is quite unassuming, and definitely requires a headphone-listen to appreciate all the idiosyncrasies woven beneath its layers. The sonic territory of “Shabrang” is distinct, with its groovy guitar passages and rigid trap-percussion. ... read more

Perhaps it's a guilty pleasure, or mabye I clicked on the wrong album... but I enjoyed myself with this!?

Considering the current user score, I kinda feel dirty admitting this. But I cannot deny expressing how spirited this LP felt, and I believe it captures the essence of trap-rap music quite aptly. On this album I was subject to slick pop-rap (i.e. "Kacey Talk", "My Window"), straight-out bangers ("The Last Backyard", "Murder Business") emotive cuts ... read more

“American Head” is a quirky new record from critically-acclaimed, psych-rock outfit, The Flaming Lips. While these tracks are imperfect evidently, there are plenty of joyous moments where the non-subtle poeticism and charming instrumentals can be quite rewarding.

Weirdly, the balladry on this LP reminds me of Queen. It’s elegant, cathartic, and heavily dramatised to a point where you can’t help but hang off each word. The difference with The Flaming Lips, however, is ... read more
