The Mars Volta - Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazon

I'm a singer.

I'm not professionally trained, but I have been in a band or two throughout high school and college and continue to practice on and off to this day. Why would I start my review of the latest offering from the Mars Volta with this bit of info? Because Cedric Bixlar Zavala is one of my musical idols. From his insanely dynamic range, to his ability to shift between languages while singing effortlessly, to his beautiful r&b esque vibrato, he's left a massive impression on me. So ... read more

It's catchy stuff with a fun male and female vocal dynamic and solid songwriting, which ultimately makes it good. However, when factoring in that savage album cover as well as the overarching punk sound and style of the time, I expected this to go so much harder. For everyone claiming this thing is dirty, gritty, and raw in other reviews... I just don't hear it. The vocals are especially tame. It's not some super polished, lightweight pop record or anything, but I've heard Weezer songs with ... read more

"Ooo bananas are an excellent source of potassium" - Homer Simpson
Bruno Major - To Let A Good Thing Die

It's nothing mind blowing and honestly pretty basic indie singer songwriter stuff all things considered with its weakest moments being unmemorable, but it's a brief, mostly enjoyable, love draped little ride. Just wish it was a bit less minimal and more ambitious in composition. That track run from Most Beautiful Thing - Regent Park is great stuff though. Helps I have a personal attachment, but bias aside it's quite nice. High 60 - Low 70
Ricky Martin - Livin' la Vida Loca

If you don't like this you're fuckin lame and deserve a swirlie. The only thing that could make this better is if it was featured in the best animated movie of all time and sung by a hispanic hired assassin in comically large boots and Eddie Murphy post 80s classic Party All the Time.
Eric B. & Rakim - Paid in Full

Ah the record that inspired all my favs and changed the landscape of perhaps the greatest, most influential genre in the history of the medium... so how does it hold up?

Overall I'd say well enough. The rapping's great. Relatively simple by today's standard and even what would come just half a decade later, but not so much so that it's boring or worthy of dismissal (hell I've heard several lines reinterpreted for years to come). It's the instrumentals that I'd argue time hasn't been the ... read more

Hey friend! I hate promoting things but this occasion is really special! I recently hit 500 legends following me! So, to celebrate that milestone I decided to put together my first community list from all of those who supported me along the way!

I wasn't sure what to do as pretty much everything has already been done, so I decided on this:

Imagine you're in an apocalypse, the whole world has gone to peril and you can only play one special song before everything perishes, what song are you picking and why? It doesn't need to be just one song, it can be a variety of songs if you can't choose just one.

I’ll compile everyone’s results over the next few days and I’ll let you know once the list is ready!

Thank you for your time! if you don't want to participate then ignore this message :)

What's up DontFearMusic, I'm making an aoty user aggregate list of the best rappers of all time. For this list, who do you think are the top 10 rappers of all time (preferably in order)?

Hey Don'tFearMusic, for my upcoming 700 follower special I wanted to do a list based some research on AOTY user's most listened to albums. All you need to do is send me a link to your last.fm account. If you don't have one, no worries. If you could tell me what is (probably) your top 10 most listened to albums that would great instead. Thanks for your time in advance!

After hearing her two standout projects I'm eagerly awaiting her followup Sundial. Though her catalog is brief it's undeniably potent.
