My hands are still quite numb after an accident with a glass table, but just to be sure my insights on this album - or "The Album" are clear, I believe now it's more clear YG Entertainment won't give up on the hip-hop route for their most successful girlgroup. While the production still exhales the western influences BLACKPINK has received during the last year. "Love To Hate Me" and "Lovesick Girls" are some of the "DDU-DU-DDU-DU" singers' best works, ... read more

Greetings, Stankysauce... Or should I say, ᴀʟᴋᴀʟɪɴᴇ ᴘɪɴᴋ?

While House never went out of style, it's no secret the genre has been quite erased due to the ascension of Dance Pop music. Does it feel wrong to dance without a singer guiding your feelings? Who knows - but for producer Alkaline Pink, no The Blessed Madonna can be enough without true rhytim. In "Analog Autopsy", he may have found that.

Distributed in 5 tracks + 3 bonus songs, the EP travels the trippy ... read more

I tell ya, Meghan Trainor never sounded so dark before. Spoopy.

To say Ava Max's debut album wasn't long-awaited, one must remember why the singer is mainly known for. "Sweet but Psycho", an ode to the times of the "Overly Attached Girlfriend" on YouTube, brought out the potential generic pop music still had in the 2010's, giving the artist something to hold on until her label finally gave her a project to properly show off. However, with the arrival of "Heaven & ... read more

That's right: Rock music isn't dead, fools!

While the world's thoughts surround the plans of preventing our civilization's literal demise, never in a million years has a musical act done so much in/for a debut album. Katy Perry's "One of the Boys"? Pfft. Joji's "Ballads 1"? *laughs* Nope. In the end, Brazilian music has been heavily blessed with the ascension of alternative rock star Vetromn.

"Mr. Lonely", the album, is a solid praise to the indie industry. In a ... read more

MAMAMOO built their fame with outstanding vocals and many racism scandals, but their first EP, the mini album "Hello", has a very small correlation with their general discography. Holding pure R&B melodies in tracks like "Mr.Ambiguous" and "Baton Touch", their tactic with black culture influences may have worked enough for their name, but not for their own prestige. A weak debut project for a group who could have been so much more.

I'm a big Gwen Stefani fan, so you can bet this was what drove me to try out this DJ mix - but other than that one track (which, in the end, is still just a remix), the entire thing feels absurdly unnecessary and dragged. What a shame for an artist who seems to have it all on her hand.

Luckily for Katy Perry, her fans allow her to never have to reinvent herself.

2020's effect in the music industry was devastating. Not over viruses, but over records in general. As rare as it was to find truly enjoyable music in a sea of generic tiktok-ed releases, now it's almost impossible to find influence in mainstream acts due to the crazy wave of fans who's only purpose is to break records, making them meaningless. Who truly cared for BTS' "Dynamite"? The "BTS ARMY" ... read more

The rap scene seems to be getting sick of pop acts meddling in their industry. In fact, even Doja Cat is catching beef with artists from past generations such as Nas. What could that mean to rappers such as Rich Brian? Maybe nothing, knowing of his young crowd - and fresh lines. Just after "These Nights", a generic synthpop single with k-pop girlie CHUNG HA, he already has more history to tell.

Rich Ch-word's "1999" EP is far from being "the sailor"'s best, but ... read more

This had everything to be one of the major EPs of the year, but again, a break-up got in the way.

After "Take Yourself Home", the expectations of a turnaround for the twink sensation were high enough to shake the indie Tumblr community. No more silly songs about young love and homophobic parents, let's actually live and feel stuff - but this is where "In A Dream" enters. Troye Sivan's latest release may have a great introduction to its project, but everything after the ... read more

Seo Taiji and Boys kicked off the K-Pop Train with heavy hip-hop and USian pop influences, and for most male acts from the first and second generations of the genre, that wasn't different. PSY's debut studio album "PSY from the Psycho World!" works on stronger beats and more explicit lyrics with diverse tracks such as "I Love Sex" (!) and "끝", but has little to offer with such rubbish vocals and weak production. Oh, well.

How did Hyolyn manage to make a decent EP in 2020 with singles from 2018? No idea - But hey, it quite worked. "SAY MY NAME" holds much from the artist's times as a vocalist in the girl group SISTAR. "Morning Call" fits her very well, and "9LIVES" is so far one of my favorite k-pop tracks of the year. Oh, well.

I listened to this, like, three times, and I still can't figure it out where Madonna sings. I'm gonna try to guess without looking online, but still, this is such an unnecessary release.

Making a deluxe version of a 16-track album that already has 8 different album covers, just to add ONE song, is peak capitalism in music - but hey, "the lakes" fits the project really well. No loss here for now.

And for the first time in a long period, I feel an urge to cry at 2 PM - and to agree Bon Iver sounds quite amusing. What a time to be alive.

It must hurt struggling so much to keep a defined artist persona. While ITZY was expected to mainly aim at the experimental route past artists like miss A and f(x) would swin by every day, even while being a more mainstream k-pop group - but "Not Shy", their most recent EP, is just an awful hill to die on. From the completely out of place title track to cliché songs like "SURF" and "Be In Love", I doubt JYP Entertainment has true plans outside their pockets ... read more

For my own demise, HIGH4's "Blessed" is boring from the bottom to the top. A generic collage of R&B/dance-pop/pop rap in a really cheap EP. What an awful way to end a career (like, literally, they disbanded after.

Not many groups in the k-pop industry directly risk themselves in the R&B route. EXO's artists go all-out in their solo albums, but never as an unit. HIGH4 is not exactly a pioneer, but definitely got a new kind of debut album with "HIGH4 1st Mini Album ‘HI HIGH’". Also, the collaboration with Lim Kim is really smooth. A nice release to listen sometimes.
