Some really colourful, fun songs that really carry this album. I tend to gravitate towards this style of The Strokes as opposed to their older stuff
Still some fun and energetic synth-pop, but it didn't quite land in the creativity and catchiness categories that their full length album would
A very welcome and deep introspective album that just slightly tones down the song catchiness for a huge dial up of emotion. It sort of completes a loose story arc starting on GKMC, and I honestly could accept this as being his last album if it weren't for the fact I want to hear more Kendrick so bad
There's something that I just find so insanely endearing and unique about this album that makes it special for me. It delivers such a bubbly, synthpop experience and something about those vocals just really does it for me
Was ready to make some kinda "called Comedown Machine because they came down making this" but honestly it's just sort of alright? I definitely don't think it's super engaging or unique but it's got some interesting songs and the instrumentals are nice
Alchemist actually makes interesting beats here, and it's complimented by very Earl Sweatshirt-esque rap flow that creates a pretty neat experimental hip-hop album with the worst album art ever
Edit: 79-->84
Some pretty cool electronic dance aspects and solid rapping from Vince and his features, including maybe one of my favourite Kendrick Lamar features ever
Edit: Coming back to the full album once more, I had an amazing time. That bass-heavy production just pierces through every track, including production from the GOAT: SOPHIE (R.I.P). Vince is still able to take such control over the flow of the tracks, and I enjoyed the features (like from Kilo Kish) spread throughout
Got a nice laid-back vibe and tackles some personal issues, so I think it's pretty solid all around for a project of this length
For a while I'll think it sounds alright and then I pay attention to the lyrics again only to realize I've had no idea what he's saying and I'm falling right asleep
Beautifully haunting journey of an album that teeters both melodious and harsh moments to create a dynamic and oppressively bleak feeling that's really only heightened by the absolutely mixed to almost non-existence vocals
While obviously not as impressive as his later Forever Story, I think DiCaprio 2 still has a lot to offer lyrically and sound-wise. When the man spits, he spits
I absolutely love some of the songs on Humanz, but I can see why it was so dissapointing for fans coming off of a lengthy hiatus. I know it's a pretty lukewarm take, but I agree that this is when Gorillaz stopped really sounding like a "band" and more of a DJ Khaled type DJ. Gorillaz has always had a large variety in sounds, but the instruments anchored it to some degree. If all or even most of the songs were good, despite the new sound, Humanz would be much better. Unfortunately the ... read more
I mean, the songs certainly sound different from the originals
Maybe the fact that this was my first Gizz album influences my thoughts on it, but I think it's a bunch of really fun psych-rock tracks. Having listened to other albums from KGLW since, I get where some people complain about the cohesion, but that doesn't really bother me about Oddments. The lyrics are maybe basic, but they serve their purpose, and I like the loose feel of them. If I had a major criticism of Oddments, it's that some of the intrumentals can be REALLY loud and abrasive to the ... read more
Freddie's rapping is very good but I just don't really find The Alchemist's production that interesting or exciting. That all compounds into a solid enough project for me
"the mixing ooo the mixing" first off: I'm too stupid to pick up on that and second off: the Madlib beats are the best part anyways
it's... alright?? Pop rap that sounds fine enough but I don't find it to be anything super special. Chance has good voice, and the beats usually sound more than acceptable but for me, it culminates into a final project less than the sum of its parts
I bet the people who listened to this when it came out must have been made fun of so bad
It's not bad, but the commercial synth-pop sound alone isn't enough to keep the whole album interesting the whole way through
