While Lux Aeterna may be the biggest adrenaline rush, 72 Seasons is easily the most well developed song among these four singles and, despite clocking in at about 7 and a half minutes, also feels shorter than If Darkness Had a Son and Screaming Suicide. This is mostly thanks to a good array of riffs that actually feel connected instead of cobbled together and a convincing vocal performance from James, who really does seem to have found a new sweet spot for his voice with age. Kirk's solo is also surprisingly decent and far removed from the wah-laden mess that was his If Darkness Had a Son one, can't say it's his best work still but it was honestly a pleasant surprise.
Yeah, I like this title track quite a bit. The previous two singles weren't very promising but this song shows that Metallica still has some fuel in the tank.
In any case, we shall know for sure soon enough. See everyone in a couple of weeks!
