I'm gonna have to listen to this one again, I like Danny Brown but this album threw me off a little bit. I'm not one for the hyper production style and there's a lot of that here...
If you're into deathcore this album is basically must-hear. Between average non-metal listeners and metal elitists, the album would probably be terrible to listen to.
I understand why this album isn't "Must Hear" but this is a fantastic album and it doesn't seem like it's getting the praise it deserves. Gunn's flow and voice are definitely an acquired taste, but you can't deny that this mf has bars. Westside Gunn is an underappreciated rapper.
Genocidal Humanoidz carries this score for the most part, Protect the Land isn't bad, just not my cup of tea.
Very weird album for me, because songs like A Pulse and A Blindside, and True are so well produced that the rest of the album kind of pales in comparison.
I finally learned how to do the Skate 3 speed glitch while listening to this album, so immediately this gets a higher score!
Just kidding, this is a fantastic album and it deserves all the praise it gets, this is must listen for anyone.
This album grew on me over time, I always find myself coming back to it and finding something new to love about it. Fantastic melodies, catchy riffs and emotional lyrics is always a recipe for a masterpiece.
Despite having two of my favorite Soundgarden songs, this album really falls flat.
No bad songs, beat selection was dope, there's some songs I won't come back to but overall it's a damn good album.
I really didn't care for this album at all, there's nothing I would like to come back to at all.
What We Don't Know is an 100 and should've been on Minutes to Midnight.
I really hope the album doesn't sound like this, especially no AI. Using AI to make yourself sound like you did years ago is such a shameless and idiotic choice. Behold is ass, the beat, JID's flow, everything. Never was a Yachty fan but man that song sucks too. JID is better than this.
Instrumental Hip Hop isn't the easiest genre for me to listen to, especially this album. The beats are good but not good enough to just listen to them on their own like this. If someone like A$AP Rocky or Earl Sweatshirt was on this album it could be a classic, and it's not to say the production is bad because it's far from it but, the lack of any lyrics makes the album feel mundane and soulless.
Sonic Brew is an album that definitely has it's moments, but it's hard to score it high when all the moments sound like other bands (Pantera, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, etc...). It's not bad by any means, but it's not great either. Pretty easy listen on some of the tracks, although Peddlers of Death and T.A.Z. are entirely skippable.
