Nadine Shah - Kitchen Sink

Prior to New Music Friday, I was going through upcoming albums to see what I should check out. I came across Kitchen Sink because I was drawn to the album cover, and it seemed to be getting relatively good reviews. So, Friday rolls around, and I check it out.

But this album just isn’t for me. And not because of the heavy dose of the Woman’s Experience written and sung about all across this record. I just think the entire package isn’t for me.

The production is pretty good, obviously inspired by jazz, and Shah’s vocal performances are always large and captivating, yet, I don’t find a ton of enjoyment with Kitchen Sink. It’s just not for me. But I can definitely see the appeal to this record. Especially the appeal in the feminist lyrics riddled all throughout the record. And regardless of my enjoyment, I still left the album with a respect for Nadine Shah and this project.
