SELF HELL

While She Sleeps release an album that is filled with generic and messy ideas that aren't executed well.

I'm just gonna start listing songs and what I didn't like about them. The first track, "PEACE OF MIND," doesn't even have a proper transition into the next track. A lot of the drops on this album aren't very rewarding and can come across as anticlimactic, like the ending breakdown on "LEAVE ME ALONE." The title track has really goofy lyrics even though it takes itself seriously and features one of the most annoying alternative metal choruses I've ever heard. The tracks "RAINBOW" and "WILDFIRE" are generic as hell and sound very similar to each other. The track "DOPESICK" features some of the most generic lyrics, including "I'm getting high, on feeling low," in the chorus and sounds like a Hollywood Undead song. "ENEMY MENTALITY" tries to beat both SELF HELL and DOPESICK as the song with the worst chorus. That part when the screaming is mixed with the high pitched cleans is so hard on the ears.

In terms of tracks that I didn't think were that bad, the track "DOWN" stands out because it features one of the more compelling main riffs even though the track is forgettable overall and has a generic chorus and structure. I think that they made and only put "TO THE FLOWERS" on this album to trick the fans of "You Are We" into listening to this. They can't even do their own song style correctly anymore as it is overproduced and features some weird vocal editing as well as some video game synths around the middle of the track that feel out of place.

So yeah, I didn't like this album. I found it to be near the bottom of the barrel when it comes to alternative metal.
