This made me even more hopeful that the new album by BCNR will turn out great
This new Thornhill single continues their really over the top Deftones worship sound that I don't think they pull of well
One of the best metalcore bands of all time is back with a new single that doesn't follow a typical metalcore song structure and has great performances, especially from drummer Chris Hornbrook
Electric Callboy are slowly becoming the Meghan Trainor of metal music. On this new single of theirs, the production is overblown, the lyrics are trying to come off as epic or fun but instead come off as cheesy or awkward, and it sounds like almost any other song they've been making for the past couple of years.
"Cavalcade" is a more cohesive record as compared to black midi's prior album "Schlagenheim."
Although, I think some moments drag across the record and could have a quicker pace and/or tighter songwriting in some small pockets. However, this album is structured very well to where the softer songs of the album are between the more chaotic and high energy tracks of the album. The project lyrically also goes a lot of places. One track is about a cult leader named ... read more
Legendary blackgaze act Deafheaven are back with a new violent single featuring some beautiful guitar melodies
This track is super filthy but it isn't over filthy to the point where it's not an unintelligible track. Which is very impressive for a death metal band to pull off.
Sludge metal band Sumac and abstract hip hop artist Moor Mother come together to create a monstrous drone metal song featuring profound lyrics
While some moments across the album could've been tighter written, Have A Nice Life do enough with the instrumentals to make the less unique tracks stand out more. They do a great job with creating an atmosphere on this album that comes across as haunting and even somewhat relaxing to listen to that fits the title of "The Unnatural World."
I wouldn't say it's a shoegaze album that expands upon the sound of the genre, but "Chameleon" by trauma ray is a shoegaze album that a shoegaze fan could potentially lose their mind over. A lot of the song progressions were very satisfying.
I found a lot of the riffs on this album to be well written, sound adventurous and give a lot of the songs a satisfying expedition feel. I do think this album suffers at coming across as 'one note' as the performances across the tracks are pretty similar. However, I'd recommend it for the guitar riffs alone.
This new collaboration between Invent Animate and Silent Planet offers nothing new from both bands. It's a very stereotypical djent track with overblown production, instrumentals that sound identical to each other, and cheesy key parts and singing that sounds heavily inspired by bands like Of Mice & Men or Asking Alexandria.
“Bless The Martyr and Kiss The Child” by Norma Jean is in contention for being the best project with a combination of metalcore and math rock ever made. A common modern complaint about a lot of metal is how it handles clean vocal (or singing) performances, however the clean vocals used on this record are placed very well, aren’t overcorrected with production, and add to the despair of a lot of the lyrics of the project. Structurally, it’s somewhat of a bold album as it ... read more
Danny Brown’s “XXX” is a very wild album particularly with its track lyrics and track subject matters.
Lyrics like "I'm a motherf*ckin' motherf*cker (Yeah), F*cking on your mother with two rubbers, I do f*ck her (I do),” or “Verbal herbal poison, words I contortion, F*cked a pregnant bitch, she save money on her ga-bortion, I feel like Billy Corgan in a church playing organ,” and “I need some brain, I think I lost mine, I'm higher ... read more
While I respect the technical moments of this album that push the boundaries of how progressive and musically specific metalcore can get, at the end of the day the songs themselves are uninspired structurally and lyrically. Not to mention the lead vocalist, Spencer Soleto, has to have one of the worst clean vocal performances I’ve ever heard in metal music.
Even T-Pain couldn't make a single moment of this song enjoyable
Only a matter of time now before Tom collaborates with Elon Musk
"Underneath" by Code Orange is a very distinctive release in their discography. It's a metal genre hybrid album that stretches and mixes various corners of alternative metal, industrial metal, and metalcore to make a project the flows very well despite switching between different subgenres of metal. Featuring tracks that could be listened to by first time metal listeners like "Who I Am," "Sulfur Surrounding," or "The Easy Way," as well as songs that ... read more
