Halsey - Lonely is the Muse
19

This sounds like she used ChatGPT to make a Deftones song. That 'Jesus Martyr' line is one of the most randomly forced lyrics I've heard in a long time.

Joey Valence & Brae - NO HANDS
80

Don't really have much to say about "NO HANDS" other than it's one of the most fun albums I've listened to in a while

Vylet Pony - where do we begin?
80

I listened to this song out of curiosity and I can't stop listening to it. I can see a lot of Porter Robinson fans enjoying this song

Kesha - DELUSIONAL.
40

I'm sorry Kesha, but this ain't it

Gridiron - Talk Real
79

This rap metal single blows every song off of "From Zero" by Linkin Park out of the water

Three Days Grace - Mayday
30

"We walk like dead people who haven't died yet,"
I'm sorry... what?
Also Matt still sounds like he has a cold when he sings.

SOPHIE - OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES
89

SOPHIE takes her sound and adds more variety and emotional input to it on her first full length album.

My biggest criticism with this album is that the tone of the album is inconsistent, which causes a slight lack of connectivity. It has tracks to where it's ambient as well as tracks to where the beats and production of a track could fit on a JPEGMAFIA song. The tone could've worked if the connection/transition between those two tracks were strong, but that connectivity ... read more

Disembodied Tyrant - The Tower: Part One
20

I'm glad that this is only a 3 song EP because I got ear fatigue almost immediately from extremely overblown and repetitive thall breakdowns with over-performed vocals that this project predictably threw at me. One of the most annoying deathcore projects of the year.

Jesus Piece - Only Self
70

"Only Self" is one of the hardest hitting metalcore albums I've ever heard. Personally I believe when this album tries to add variety it loses steam. Specifically with the final three tracks of the album that feel unfinished and could've had more going on with them. Still worth checking out if you're a fan of metalcore.

Gojira - Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)
75

Not their most creative, technical, or heavy song but that's understandable considering they wrote this for the Olympics. They still managed to create a good song that is unique to their catalogue.

Lady Gaga - Disease
60

I'm a little torn on this song. I like Gaga's energy and the progression of the song feels rewarding. However the beat is weak and I feel that the lyrics mostly fail at connecting to a 'fighting my inner demons' narrative.

Playboi Carti - Die Lit
89

I have never been the biggest fan of trap music, mainly because I feel it is one of the hardest genres to create and sell a well defined release. Trap artists have to make simple, repetitive, and often lyrically goofy music enjoyable and dynamic through their performance and delivery which I feel most trap artists fail at. So “Die Lit” is an album that I wasn't expecting to like. However, I randomly decided to give this album a chance and was surprised.

Playboi Carti has a ... read more

Thornhill - nerv
25

This new single from Thornhill, just like their past couple singles, have been sounding to me like something written by Loathe but with bland riffs and obnoxious horny lyrics

Death Grips - Guillotine
100

Not that many songs go harder than this one

Architects - Whiplash
15

The chorus in this Architects single is one of their worst, right next to "anything is possible, we could be unstoppable." Also that kiss in the music video screams, "see we aren't anti LGBTQ, we have two guys kissing in our music video. Please forget about that transphobic post our guitarist retweeted."

Spiritbox - Perfect Soul
65

Spiritbox really needs to change up their formula because this is very standard and basic for alternative metal. Courtney's vocals are also pretty unremarkable on this single.

Edit (39 -> 65): The vocals are actually pretty well crafted on this song.

Poppy - Negative Spaces
35

Let me make myself clear. I don't like being controversial. I didn't want to give this album a negative rating. I want to love every album that has a positive rating on here (especially ones that make up the genre of metal). However, this isn't even close to an album that is worthy of praise.

Three years ago if you told me that Poppy would drop one of the most safe and generic alternative metal records of this year I wouldn't have believed you. How did this happen? I felt ... read more

Linkin Park - From Zero
20

Emily Armstrong replacing Chester Bennington as the main vocalist for Linkin Park has got to be one of the most insulting lineup changes across all genres of music. Chester was sexually abused from age 7 to age 13, Emily defended actor Danny Masterson by going to his court trial when he was accused of raping 2 women. Chester killed himself as a result of his mental illness, Emily has ties to scientology which their members are strongly against getting treatment for mental health issues. Chester ... read more

Linkin Park - Two Faced
39

Takes me two steps closer to the edge, and I'm about to face

fallingwithscissors - openyoureyes
95

Talk about taking your sound to another level of insanity, and I thought their EP this year was heavy

"The instrumentals accompany the lyrics more properly on dark sun than this album. Like the instrumentals in Pale Moonlight are so dumb because it has lyrics about someone (potentially Rory) 'dancing with the devil' to where it's harming them, and it sounds like a radio rock song meant to motivate people. Like shouldn't the song sound sad or at least off putting?"
On Dayseeker - Creature In The Black Night
"@PoisonBow I haven't listened to dark sun in a while, I don't like either album but I think it is better than creature in the black night because the lyrics and song meanings have a bit more effort into them. Like with Parallel about his father passing away, or with Paper Hearts about Rory sharing that he has been so overwhelmed by the weight of the world that he has a suicidal thought about dying in a car crash"

"@tn3t3ta How can you hate me so much, yet know nothing about me? I’ve given a lot of metalcore albums high ratings. I recently gave the new dying wish album, a metalcore band, a rating definitely higher than a 3/10. There’s nothing wrong with disagreeing with me, but don’t spread misinformation."

"@RemisReviews I don’t think I’ve ever said in my life that pop vocals make something bad. For the genre comment, it is my believe that these bands are more closer to pop than metal. A lot of their songs are just pop tunes featuring metal breakdowns and basic small elements of other genres."

On HomeSession3's review of Slaughter to Prevail - GRIZZLY
"a score of 50 being a "awful score" to me doesn't make any sense cause you're ignoring half of the numbers of quality you could be using to score an album (49 - 0). If you thought this album was worse than a 5/10 "middle of the road score" than you should rate it lower."
