What a surprise, one of the best Youtube videos of all time has a pretty damn good soundtrack.
It’s mystical, wonderful and perfectly fits the entire video. Garrett and Nicholas really get to flex their composer muscles in many ways, and it’s wonderful seeing what they come up with.
It’s good that they put the actual songs in the beggining, because they’re easily the best songs on here. Scott is a surprisingly good vocalist and he fits these theatrical-esque songs ... read more
Seeing Isaac Wood credited as a writer on an Injury Reserve song is WILD
Jesus christ, this is yet another straight hit out of the park. The insane sampling of Windmill bands continues from Knees, as well as the genre-crossing. It’s basically impossible to decide what genre this fits into, it has a really poppy hook, a rap verse, and the obvious experimental rock asthethic of BCNR. But my god do they all gel together so beatifully and chaotically.
While Knees felt like a very quiet ... read more
This is kinda random and cute. I’d say the obvious highlight is Meanwhile, which is a nice lowkey banger. The other two songs are good too, but this really feels like a collection of songs Damon made and felt proud of enough to release, but not on the main album.
I’m honestly more confused by this releasing randomly with no warning lmao. But yeah, it’s quality post Song Machine material.
Danny Brown did it better.
This single makes me both excited and worried. It’s not bad whatsoever, but there’s a constant feeling that this doesn’t fit as a single. It feels very much like a song that’ll make much more sense in the full context of the album. The synthy first beat is fun, and the beat switch is pretty damn terrifying, but it’s minimalist to the point of almost feeling empty. It’s just so confusing to put this out as a single after the first ... read more
…and yet I wonder why my friends think I have bad taste.
Last year’s Your City Gave Me Asthma was a pleasantly surprising album/long ep that I really enjoyed, but even on that project, the most fast paced songs were the ones I enjoyed the most, so getting a full collection of fast paced indie rock songs from Wilbur is great.
In a way, the best moments on this ep remind me of Phoenix’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, in that, they both feel unbeliavably colorful and generally ... read more
Lil Nas X once again makes another great song, but this is probably his first that I’d consider beautiful. The vocal harmonies and the strings are truly majestic. The pure variety his newest record will have is gonna be insane. It does make me a bit worried if it’ll be a mess, but so far Lil Nas is 3/3 on the singles, so it can’t be that bad, can it?
I’m glad this version wasn’t on the album.
Not to be mean, but nothing beats the prettyness of the original
PEGGY WHERE YOU BEEN AT
AAAAAAAA THIS SONG IS SO FUCKING GOOD. DESPITE BEING 2 AND A HALF MINUTES IT’S SO WELL BUILT OUT AND IT KEEPS ITS SUSPENSION UNTIL THE DROP OF THE BEAT JUST ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS YOU AND THEN THE GODDAMN SNARE TAKES YOU OUT. BUT THE FUCKING BEAT SWITCH UP TAKES YOU BY YOUR HAND, THROWS YOU OUT OF A WINDOW AND BEATS YOU UP UNTIL YOU SCREAM OUT IN PLEASURE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA IT’S SO GOOD.
THIS IS THE PERFECT BLEND OF FAMILIAR ELEMENTS AND EXPERIMENTAL IDEAS WITH A ... read more
…I swear to god this rating is serious.
There’s obvious nostalgia behind my rating, but even with that, I hadn’t listened to the song in years, and yet the moment I did it honestly shocked me how good the song was.
There’s an almost adorable clumsiness to the lyrics that is shockingly not as cringy as you’d expect, and the production is pretty much perfect in my mind. A lot of the elements of the song aren’t exactly the cleanest and the clearest, but that ... read more
Bill Wurtz breaks gender roles while making a killer song.
It’s insane to me how Bill Wurtz manages to create so many songs that have the same style, and should therefore sound the same, but manage to have a level of individuality which seperates them from every other song. This song’s main riff is so fucking good that I am astonished I haven’t heard it before. The lyric’s are the usual weird, off the wall sentences that shouldn’t really make sense, but still ... read more
Oh, this is the song that Ed put on Tiktok and was geniunely expecting people to duet with him.
I gotta be honest, even though I don’t like Ed as much as the next person on here, this is not that bad. Like the lyrics are probably not that good, and it is very simple, but I’m a sucker for that vocoder effect. I don’t hate anything here, nor do I love anything here. That would probably be a bad thing, but for this song, it’s the type of neutral feeling I think reflects ... read more
I’m not gonna listen to this, but I will say that James releasing a song about (pretending) to be a good person after releasing a mobile game with a lot of microtransactions is really something
Well, since this got an ALBUM OF THE YEAR nomination, I guees I have to review it now.
Goddamnit, I really like this album!
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely understand where this album fails and why most people think it’s just okay, but there’s something that Jacob just NAILS on this record that he doesn’t on any other (for me atleast).
Moving into a more pop direction should’ve been disasterous for Jacob, especially considering his insane knowledge of music and ... read more
Kyle has never interested me. Not in the slightest. But for some reason, I was looking through his songs and I decided to listen to this one.
It’s been stuck in my head for days.
My god the production is just so incredible. It combines electronic elements with some incredible vocal samples from Jane Child and UGHHHH this is exactly right up my alley.
Oh and Kyle sucks on here
Alright, the part where he sings is good enough, but uuuhhh the lyrics aren’t great. Like I don’t ... read more
You should all go watch Centricide 7, it’s amazing. Geniunely one of the coolest uses of Youtube as a platform.
Song’s fine too lol.
Vocals are a bit awkward in places rhythmically, and the mix isn’t perfect, but I do really like the second verse. Anyway, watch Centricide 7.
