FKA twigs is genuinely one of the most consistent artists of this modern age. “EUSEXUA” coming in at 11 tracks in length is absolutely phenomenal with it being one of her most grand projects period. The soundscape to this record feels so cold, smooth, and dystopian (I imagine like a society with structures completely based off of Apple’s magic mouse). Twig’s vocality throughout the entire album was simply amazing and it amplifies the ethereal-feeling soundscape tenfold. I feel as if you can hear her inspirations throughout this album, most notably Aphex Twin; the instrumental to “Girl Feels Good” sounds like something you could hear off of “Selected Ambient Works 85-92.” What really seals that idea for me is that she quite literally sample “Avril 14th” on “Sticky” which works extremely well with the soundscape and to me adds a bit of warmth to the cold atmosphere that the album creates. I will say that the first half of this album is much better than the second in my opinion. Some tracks such as “Childlike Things” and “24hr Dog” feel almost incomplete and rough drafts of ideas that could be really great. “24hr Dog” especially feels like a missed opportunity but comes off as forgettable to me. Overall, FKA twigs is a forever evolving artist in my eyes and she just dropped what could be an album of the year contender already.
