Giving the World Away is a case of a good record with a handful of flat-out INCREDIBLE standouts. Quicksand has been one of my favorites of the year ever since I heard it as a single and its chorus opened up the sky for me and Twin has an expansive take on dream pop that I wish I could live in. Overall though, despite some high highs and some stellar production, Hatchie can feel a bit faceless at times, both as a performer and a songwriter. She falls into the classic trap of throwbacks like this, where despite making some great tunes, she fails to carve out a distinct identity for herself within this lane of hazy, 90s pop. Again, its solid and incredibly gratifying on first listen, but it doesn’t stick with me as a whole in the way I’d hoped.
