EDIT: I have a theory about those who love music to the degree most of us on this site do. This applies to all mediums of art, but for the sake of clarity, I’ll be using music terms. Anyways, I believe that a person will find maybe three to five albums in their lifetime that can truly be considered, for lack of a better word, life-changing. This kind of record isn’t just something you listen to and enjoy to death track for track, isn’t just a masterpiece, isn’t just a 10. It’s more than that. It becomes a part of you. Each song sears itself into your brain, your heart, soul—whatever the hell part of you you want to imagine. The cover is a symbol for you, the melodies are on repeat in your head, and the lyrics become your personal manifesto. I’m still in the early stage of my life (about to start my senior year of high school), and right now I’m scared shitless about so many things: college, relationships both off and online, how much time I’m spending with the internet and music and whether I’m wasting said time. However, I put this album on, and while it didn’t put me at ease per se, something made sense. This theory came to me, and made me remember something that has so much value to me. Pieces of art that can make you feel these things, that can have such a profound impact upon your identity, YOU as a person, only come a handful of times in your life. Twin Fantasy is the first one for me. I look forward to finding others, and I can’t wait for you all to find yours too.
Gotta love it when an album makes you want to smile, cry, jump, and embarrass yourself by singing along, and often all at the same time. In all honesty, few albums have made me feel as deeply as Twin Fantasy: Will is probably the best rock songwriter of his generation, and his incredibly vulnerable and personal story is nearly flawless in my eyes. The bitterness and hurt on the original is replaced with newfound wisdom and perspective, replacing heartbreak and spite, with reflection and forgiveness. It's beautiful to see an aspiring musician's vision fully realized, especially when we get to go along that journey with him, at least in a musical sense, and that's what makes Twin Fantasy such an experience.
