Yung Lean - Stardust

Production is still amazing as always and there are some absolutely stunning moments and songs on here (bliss being a clear highlight, with its’ punchy punk and cloud rap fusion production mixed with great performances from twigs and lean), but overall I find myself being a little underwhelmed here.

Starz was such a phenomenal step forward for leans sound, with him practically perfecting his dreamy, but still hard hitting style, and while this has a lot of bold genre fusions and major potential throughout, it sadly falls short due to a low impact, near universal underwhelming vocals from lean, and a super inconsistent flow throughout, and feels like a far cry from the polish and craft he showed on previous outings in the past couple years.

There’s still stuff to praise here, like the still good vibe and a couple of very exciting and impressive songs that show he still has lots to offer and isn’t willing to just keep making the same type of music after mastering it, but the ideas he puts forth on here definitely still need some refining and time in the studio before they can blossom into some truly great music.
