James Blake has a sweet, soothing voice. His instrumental style is a worthwhile blend of electronic and ambient pop, which he displays well. Guests, especially Moses Sumney and Rosalía elevate the tracks that they appear on a significant amount. Yet, even with all these positives, this album has grown off of me since it first released. The lyrics are romantic and it's clear that James is in a happy place in his life, but a lot of the resulting tracks ("Assume Form," "Into the Red," "Are You In Love") are meandering and listless in their approach. The pieces that make up the whole are all high quality, but the full product leaves a little bit to be desired.
