Beach House - Depression Cherry

pros: ethereal, soft and soothing; Beach House have been on a streak of fantastic dreamy pop records from Teen Dream to Bloom to finally this, Depression Cherry, a more mellow and melancholic direction that finds Beach House's incredibly atmospheric environment taken up a notch by introducing a more sentimental and warm stylistic change, it creates an enchanting feel that's intoxicating and stimulating without ever feeling like too much; and as always it remains as lush, poetic and hypnotic as you'd expect from a Beach House record, the sounds here are more drowsy and laid-back which compliments the consistent lethargic theme found throughout, it's a patient album with songs you can sink your teeth into and find yourself entrenched in a world that feels incredibly distant yet oddly familiar, a bittersweet and longing journey of fulfilment and meaning that this record cements in all it's melodic and surreal vanity; a warm and cozy album that's welcoming but introduces brand new elements that are intriguing and exotic, culminating in a melancholic piece of art.
cons: because of the more slow nature of the album, the songs can feel unexciting or even boring if you're not in the right mood or just mainly uninterested; the songs can also fall short sometimes where it doesn't fully reach it's potential and instead just sounds like a rework of previous songs but then again when you stick with a consistent theme you will get similar sounding songs after all so keep that in mind.
overall: Depression Cherry by Beach House is mellow, mellifluous and delicate, it shows Beach House taking a familiar style and using a more lethargic and daydreaming tone that's melancholic and nocturnal; it can feel slow or uninteresting sometimes but it contains a consistent theme and flows smoothly start to finish, it's a fantastic addition to their already great discography and by this point Beach House is one of the most influential dream pop bands of all time, creating history and with it comes a highly recommend listen.
