MisterWives - Our Own House

Judging the songs individually, I like a lot of what's going on here. The booming choruses and the varied instrumentation separates MisterWives from their indie pop contemporaries.
But it's in the contexts of the album that the choruses in particular looses their charm. They're all so huge, and important. And for every song the impact of these giant hooks becomes dull. Not only because if they're all huge, none of them are huge, but also because they all sound so darn similar. I honestly can't differentiate some of them, and that's a problem for me. Also I'm not the biggest fan of the vocalist. I hate to use this description, but it really sounds like she's trying too hard on some of the cuts. She's certainly not terrible, but the way she accentuates her voice can be annoying at times. Our Own House is a decent listen, but you could have listened to the first three tracks on repeat and it probably wouldn't have changed a thing.
