THE BIG 90's DIVE (In Progress 4/75)

(Listening order is by year it came out, unless specified otherwise)

I realized not too long ago that "Damn. I haven't listened to any albums that came out in the '90s AT ALL, despite it being such an important and extravagant era for music!"
So I decided to dive some of the most acclaimed albums of this era to widen my music taste! Under the albums I will include a short review accompanied by my 3 favorite songs on that album. Also, if the album was recommended to me I have shouted out the individual that did so.
:)

AMOUNT OF ALBUMS FOR EACH YEAR:

Radiohead - OK Computer
100
//PRIORITIZED DUE TO ACTIVE DISCOGRAPHY DIVE//

Genre: [Art Rock, Alternative Rock]

"WOW. What a way to start the dive, huh? The second highest-rated album on the entire site. And that is for good reason. Everything about this album is quite genius. The instrumentals aren't extremely experimental, but they're still unique and sound very new and fresh. The lyrical ability is so incredibly creative and the dystopian content is extremely haunting at times (See Subterranean Homesick Alien or Karma Police). Hell, even the text-to-speech interlude on this thing gives me the chills. I was incredibly skeptical to put this at a 100, but after revisiting the album a lot after the first listen I just think it's a perfect record. And it's not even the best Radiohead album! Good job you funky british boys."

Top 3 songs:
Karma Police
No Surprises
Exit Music (For A Film)
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
75
Genre: [Ethereal Wave, Dream Pop]

"You ever listen to an album and think it's great, but you feel like you never want to hear it again? This is one of those albums for me. But it's not one of those albums that make you feel uncomfortable or makes you depressed. It's just... devoid of any more purpose. You get the full experience on a first listen and you get nothing out of a relisten. The sound is ethereal, as it's genre describes. But also somewhat vapid in a way. It dissappoints on some songs and excels on others. It's just not an album I see myself returning too anytime soon or anytime in general. It's just not as good as it's rating would suggest, in my opinion."

Top 3 songs:
Heaven or Las Vegas
Frou-frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires
I Wear Your Ring
Judas Priest - Painkiller
90
Genre: [Heavy Metal]

"Usually I want to keep a sort of formality with these short reviews. It feels better that way. But, holy fuck. This album fucks. So hard. It's really everything you want from a great heavy metal album. Nice thrashy main guitars, yelpy falsetto vocals and mind-blowing solos. Lyrically, the album isn't very creative. But it's structured and cohesive. Everything from songs about monsters destroying shit to a politcal, anti-war banger. This album is just phenomenal metal in every way of the word."

Top 3 songs:
Painkiller
One Shot at Glory
A Touch of Evil
Ride - Nowhere
80
Genre: [Shoegaze, Dream Pop]

(Recommended by @Windy 🥰)

"Well, I finally did it. I enjoyed a shoegaze album. Granted I haven't heard any of the really big shoegaze albums (as you can tell by this list), but the shoegaze I've listened to has always been a drag, with boring instrumentals. On this album, Ride delivers a variety of energy levels from songs without losing the classic shoegaze sound. At 39 minutes, I feel as though this album is the perfect length for what they presented. Not too short to ruin the atmosphere, but also not too long to make it boring. A fine release."
