Fucked Up - David Comes to Life

Wow, what a great album this was. It totally blew my expectations out of the water. I came into this thinking, "an 80-minute punk album? That can't be good". To my surprise, it was indeed, good. There's a plot here, and everything feels connected. Whether this is by traditional transitions or just similar styles, everything is coherent. It's hard to find the right amount of variability when your project is this long, but Fucked Up nailed it. Nothing was too varied so that it didn't fit the feel of the album, but it was varied enough to not become stale. This also really does tell the story of David coming to life, and it's executed beautifully. However, 80 minutes, regardless of how good the album sounds, is a lot in one sitting. Although manageable, it made the end feel a little bit repetitive and a little bit stale. Not enough for it to be a problem, but enough for it to be noticeable. Each song is unique but carries similar instrumentation, which can make it hard to distinguish certain tracks from others. Overall, this was a really good album, it totally shocked me, and the only major downside is the length. "David Comes to Life" carries the punk energy and feel throughout, not once leaving me bored.
