This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but Imploding the Mirage is a better album than Hot Fuss, the latter of which starts off with five of the The Killers' most killer songs in the whole catalog before dropping off for several tunes and then launching into another one of their best songs, Glorious Indie Rock & Roll. Imploring the Magic is a shorter and tighter album, with fewer duds, hence I give it a slightly better rating then Hot Fuss. It's good to see because after Battle Born, the band seemed to be struggling with their own identity. One can still hear a couple Bruce-inspired chord progressions, drum rhythms and guitar riffs - the song My Own Soul's Warning sounds like another attempted Bruce retread, except that it happens to be better than almost every song on Battle Born - but by and large, The Killers seemed to have found their sound again with songs like Blowback, Dying Breed, Caution, Running Towards (sic) a Place and When the Dreams Run Dry.
Sidenote No. 1: This is unrelated to the music, obviously, but the album artwork is fantastic.
Sidenote No. 2: I know this is nitpicky, but Brandon seems to have an issue with grammar, even though he claims that he agonizes over every lyric and song title. "Are we human, or are we dancer" without the "S" ruins one of the best lines in the band's whole catalog. In Running Towards a Place, the word "toward" is the preferred spelling in almost every style guide in America, while "towards" is preferred in the UK. "Fire In Bone" is an awkward construction and needs an additional word. Also, the song title, "Money on Straight," from Wonderful Wonderful (which, itself, needs a comma), makes no sense.
