Death Grips - No Love Deep Web
89

Despite coming out so soon after The Money Store, No Love Deep Web is as experimental as a sophmore effort should be. The highs are higher and the lows are lower, but it is still is a phenominal record.

93

Its as good, as catchy and as raw as everyone says. Forget all of stigma of Death Grips and just enjoy a loud, fun experience.

Westside Gunn - 10

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!!!!

billy woods - Aethiopes
74

A very solid record but I personally couldn't imerse myself as much as I could with other billy woods projects. I guess I am a much bigger fan of billy woods with Kenny Segal's production. Heavy Water is really good though.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Omnium Gatherum
84

Starting off, The Dripping Tap is an absoulte feat and as a single artistic statement is absolutely incredible. The rest of the project is one of the most varied King Gizzard experiences yet. Combining elements of psyche rock, thrash metal, and even hip hop. This also makes it the most inconsistant but I don't hold that against the project. If it wasn't as long as it is then this would be the perfect entrypoint into their discography.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Made in Timeland
50

This is the worst King Gizzard project to date, and that is a really good thing. The jams feel a little drawn out but the experimentation on Smoke and Mirrors provides the short project with a nice jolt in intrigue. Coming from a massive King Gizzard fan, I won't be revisiting this anytime soon.

Travis Scott - UTOPIA

ORIGINAL SCORE 83
UPDATED SCORE 84

Travis Scott wears his influences very obviously and that provides some of his best and worst songs. I enjoy the experimentation and when it works (like on HYAENA) it is breathtaking and even when it doesn't (like on MODERN JAM) it is at least entertaining (edit from 2024: I now really like MODERN JAM so it did end up working). Despite this a lot of songs do kind of drag for me. Plus a couple feel less like he was inspired by Kanye and more trying to imitate ... read more

slowthai - UGLY
88

Dark, sad and insightful. Yum has some of the best and most guteral screaming I have ever heard. At this point I don't know whether this is the emotional weight of a struggling artist or a dive into the mind of an evil person and I'm not sure if I will ever know that distinction.

QUEEF JERKY - THE MICHIGAN LEFT
56

Shockly impressive instrumentals put to shitpost lyrics. Shoutout to DJ Grant.

89

Some of the craziest instrumentals I have ever heard while somehow staying approachable and catchy. Listening to Donkey Show had me hooked instantly, my favorite dance album of the year.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation
85

The kind of music that would get you thrown in a locker by a 6' 4 linebacker in a letterman jacket in the 80s. Incredibly thrash that once again shows King Gizzard's versatility.

JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES
92

Lived up to the hype. Some of Danny and Peggy's best work. The most fun I have ever had listening to an album.

billy woods & Kenny Segal - Maps
84

This is a smooth, contained and clean album that has been the best contender for the "album of the summer." While I prefer the darker tones on Hiding Places, this is pushing billy woods and Kenny Segal up to the top of my rapper-producer list.

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
97

The most personality I have ever heard in a single instrument will forever be Miles Davis' trumpet. This is an absolute masterpiece in composition and a pure specticle to behold. Plus the name funny.

Fugazi - Repeater
91

This is absoultely peak hardcore for me. I think the pure anger Guy and Ian have adds a lot to songs like Repeater and Merchandise and unlike most hardcore projects, it takes its time and really builds upon itself. Shut the Door is not only one of my favaorate closers but one of my favorate songs period. Also some of the slickest bass lines out there. Just incredible.

45

God this thing is rough. I fully understand how important this record is in the context of punk/hardcore, I just think it is a bad example. This is not coming from someone who is outside the genre either. Fugazi is one of my favorate bands and I have dabled in a lot of the big hitters from Hardcore as a genre. Put it this way, I really like Bad Brains' self titled and even I think this thing is hard to get through. I just can't deal with Henry Rollins. Rise Above is a great song and really the ... read more

Lingua Ignota - SINNER GET READY
90

Quickest way to get thrown out of the function

(In all seriousness this is art in all aspects and the sheer emotion put into this horrifying project is simply astounding)

Quadeca - I Didn't Mean to Haunt You
81

Quadeca is a really interesting artist because no matter what you thought of him before this, IDMTHY would of suprised anyone. It is really something that a song with Danny Brown can balance his charisma and punchlines with telling a serious story but Quad succeeds. The rest of the project doesn't dissapoint.

Pusha T - It's Almost Dry
89

God Pusha-T is so good. Let The Smokers Shine The Coupes is one of my favorite songs of this year. Clean, smooth and makes me want to try dope.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Changes
84

With the 3rd album KGATLW made in October 2022, they manage to imporve upon the other 2 made earlier. This feels like the culmulation of insane hours of studio time that forms into a 40 minute jam. Hate Dancin', Astroturf and Gondii are great cuts and despite how many records they make, has me excited for the next one.
