Vampire Weekend - Unbearably White

Maybe this is why I've never listened to a full Vampire Weekend album. Man, these songs are just so boring to me and I think the main cause of that is Ezra Koenig's songwriting. He has great hooks and mostly pretty good instrumental arrangements + production, but fuck every word just sounds so uninspired. These singles revolve around the same tropes that have been beaten to a pulp by indie musicians in the past decade or so. Unbearably White and Harmony Hall are the strongest songs of this new bunch of singles in my opinion, but unfortunately my expectations for the new LP have been washed away.

Man you're washed out. Listen to some deep cuts like Mansard Roof which is about the Falklands War. Really cool song writing, that is also in synergy with the theme of the song. And I strongly disagree with you regarding the new singles. For example, Unbearably White sounds like nothing else during the ''ambient'' breaks. Harmony Halls looks back at piano rock and roll music from the likes of The Rolling Stones. The only semi-boring tracks, in my opinion, are Big Blue and 2021.
