Megan Thee Stallion - Fever

THIS is where I am drawing the line with Pitchfork. This year has above and beyond been terrible for their reviews and featured articles. They've been very public and open with following the SJW-type agenda ever since that XXXtentacion audio clip was first shown in their article on him. Now, that isn't bad and I despise XXX as much as any person with a brain, because he's a horrible person. But thats the first point, at least in my attention paid to the site, that they started "taking sides" so to speak. Then came the Ameer Vann thing and we all know how that went down. They don't even try to hide to overrated hip hop album reviews anymore, with this album being a prime example. They went from a pretty entertaining and fair site for reviews that gave exposure to smaller artist, to a biased, political, and unreasonable review site that takes a lot more than music into consideration. The problem isn't the fact that they review on things more than music, because I do that too. Its how often they do it, and how shameless they are when they do it.
Saying this is a "Houston Classic" is insulting to the H-town legends like DJ Screw and Big Moe. I Like Megan thee Stallion, but this is an average album. Her image is overpowering her music and Pitchfork is only encouraging that. I can't write rants like this without sounding bitter, but I honestly am. I liked when Pitchfork was fair, as they were a couple years ago, because they have a legitimate hand in the success of some artists. Just wait until Lil Nas X gets 8.5 BNM.

I agree, and I guess what makes it disappointing for me is how useful Pitchfork used to be for discovering new music. While I still browse it, I am struggling to find a reason why I would subscribe once they put up the paywall.
May 23, 2019
yup, same for me. I can still find great music from their reviews, but i no longer take their numerical rating into account.
May 23, 2019
I find, along with Fantano and other 'established' critics, their persistence on proving something or inflating scores to appeal is incredibly condescending. Well said.
May 23, 2019
"Proving Something" YES that's exactly what it is. They think that by giving a high score to certain albums, they are in some way proving that it is good, or that it is important. Fantano I give the benefit of the doubt because he does always state that the reviews are opinion and is a really cool guy. Saw him in person once and he genuinely just wants to talk about music, whether its a review or a constructive discussion of some sort.

They've always been pretty left-leaning (I'd guess their readership is mostly brocialist hipsters and other libs), especially the guest writers on The Pitch. To me, those articles say wa more than the ratings (and sometimes reviews), which do tend to feel like empty gestures and virtue signaling. What upsets me most tho is when I see ppl use that to discredit praise given to actually good work by POC/LGBT/etc, like when ppl wrote off naming ASATT as 2016 AOTY as some shallow attempt to be #woke.
May 23, 2019
I do think the emptier ratings promote that frustration as it becomes difficult to understand the connection between the number and the review. ASATT was AOTY, but I remember being surprised that it was chosen over the many 9.0 reviews from that year. It's not that I disagree, nor do I expect them to just copy paste their top 50 ratings, but I do think it opens the conversation for questioning why the site did that.
May 23, 2019
ASATT was more deserving than fucking Coloring Book. I lost my shit when that got above 8.5, and a 9.1 at that. They give trendy music higher scores than it deserves, along with music from POC/LGBT/etc, whether you like that fact or not. I'm not saying that to discredit the music, I'm saying it because Pitchfork has an agenda now, and it sucks because they used to run a really well-written site.

Male critics gotta give the female rappers overwhelmingly positve reviews, unless they want to get "me too'd"
May 23, 2019
"uh actually its about ethics in music journalism"
May 28, 2019
Dude this isn’t a problem you say there’s bias for women, LGBT, and POC but they still explain why they like the music, it’s not like they are just saying haha lol 10/10 they are a gay black woman, pitchfork has opinions and you are just salty because of that. Are you mad because an under represented group in music will be maybe getting like 2% more attention? What is the problem here? How big in the grand scheme of things do you think Pitchfork is?
May 28, 2019
Give me an example of an artist that grew a reasonable amount ONLY because of Pitchfork
May 28, 2019
^ whitney.
May 28, 2019
Pitchfork werent even the first reviewers of the album
May 28, 2019
they puuuuuuushed them heavy before tho
May 28, 2019
I don't know anything about this band but I’ll just say even if they only boosted 50 artists by themselves still there is not much of an impact on the music industry which is my point
May 28, 2019
oh lol industry i thought you meant like a singular artist
May 29, 2019
well it really do be fuck Pitchfork season huh
May 29, 2019
Well yeah I did Im saying you’re right but in the greater industry Pitchfork aren’t really pushing many ppl up and they aren't pushing ppl down the charts he’s making a big deal that ppl don’t actually deserve to get high scores but they do because they are a certain way which even if true they don’t have a huge effect on the music industry so it’s not a big deal the public listens to what they listen to Khalid has the most listeners on Spotify and Pitchfork hasn’t given him more than a 6
May 29, 2019
Well 2nd but yeah
May 29, 2019
lol i was just thinking about how pitchfork is gonna eat lil nas' ass in their review. funny guy tho, just followed him on the twit
May 29, 2019
@Hunteriscoolio you're thinking about this with a parochial mentality. There are levels to it (you and I know) ...
May 29, 2019
While there is a slight bias I still think there isn’t a problem and they still explain why they actually like the album, I doubt they base their opinions and make a review about a record around the way a person is.
May 29, 2019
Really? I do this... And I know they know people like me do this. So I know they do this as well.

They were bought out by Conde Nast (extremely brand-centric, just look at their site), & are leading a tribe of lite brocialists (thx Decatur for the term) to water that they are also flavoring to the brocialists' tastes.

Eh I might be wrong it’s just when people call things SJW they really seem like pseudo-intellectuals (haha ironic I know) I think they just want to expand the scope of some smaller artists (and get clicks to be fair) but I don’t think this harms the music industry, I just think for the die hard music listeners they are just like wow Pitchfork deceived me. I’ll be honest and say I don’t read Pitchfork so I don’t know their exact side I just think you are over exaggerating this “problem”
May 29, 2019
Yeah it’s a personal thing for you and you miss the old Pitchfork but there are like 20 other review websites which are probably more reasonable
May 29, 2019
Sorry if you saw my deleted messages saying you heil hitler (which was a joke) I’m thinking about this irrationally, sorry exception :/
May 29, 2019
Changed my pfp because it’s pretty shit
May 29, 2019
Also this isn’t me just trying to end the conversation and pretending to change my opinion
May 29, 2019
Holy shit...this is getting comments more frequently the longer it is up. I was going to type a few comments on my opinion on it all, but that'll just be over flooding it lol. I'm just gonna say thank you for having reviews that encourage conversations, even if it occasionally can be a bit of a mess.
May 29, 2019
i was an asshole first so i get the asshole points
May 29, 2019
Ok
May 29, 2019
I'm just a cunt in general, so surely I should get every single point
May 30, 2019
Beach House 7 was an 8.9 last year and yves tumor was 9.1 and they ended up terrible year end rank from pitchfork. Bizarre.
May 30, 2019
yeah like their reviews and articles used to have so much more personality and now they just feel so automated and dull. The last greatest thing Pitchfork was the Die Lit review.
May 30, 2019
Hunter bro i didn’t see your deleted comments but thanks for telling me. if you actually got to the point where you said i heil hitler, please get the fuck off of this website lmao. i troll a lot but that’s just an absolutely mindless and irrational response to a discussion that is not that serious.
May 30, 2019
Thanks 2 Every1 Else 4 Contributing to this Stimulating conversation

I was joking that you heil hitler was my first comment
May 31, 2019
Obviously wasn’t serious I didn’t know if you took it seriously or even saw it idk
May 31, 2019
I said irrationally because I’m saying all this stuff and I forgot that it’s just a personal problem with Pitchfork and you not just getting mad because they are “SJW like” but because they changed
May 31, 2019
Okay you understand now. You're good dog ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’ฏ
May 31, 2019
I just don’t understand why some inefficients have a problem with feminism in the first place.
May 31, 2019
I don't understand why people like you can't fucking read but can write some real ignorant ass shit.
May 31, 2019

May 31, 2019
createaccount said ">pitchfork gave a high rating sjw black fem trans ultra left wing propagandists!!! >fantano gave a high rating agree with you fantano this album is good!!! and it happens all the time" idk what she on
Jun 2, 2019
Well the injury reserve album is bad

They gave Drip Harder a 7.6 and you were surprised by this? I mean being honest, being a Texas native and listening to a lot of Texan/Houston artists while this isn't a "Houston Classic" it's a fairly good southern trap album. Kinda petty making the "Fever" page here a soapbox for you to rant about Pitchfork "taking sides" rather than actually giving good thoughts and arguments about why the album isn't very good.

that p4k prediction was luckily wrong. jeez, the shitstorm that would've occurred if that got above a 7
