rock's lyrical abilities are immaculate. he has a real "way with words" and writes some of the most interesting songs. but i felt this LP really fell short on production. none of the tracks had a real standout beat that added to the track much. the production made me want more than i got, but i gotta say, i wasnt disappointed overall. aesop rock can really rap and write, i just think that the production was underwhelming.

this is the same bullshit from future. hes not an awful artist, but he seems to be getting repetitive. even DS2 was better than this. evol is just basic sounding future. same production style, same flows, same lyrical content. this is his seventh solo project in less than two years. monster, beast mode, 56 nights, and ds2 had their own sound. purple reign brought it down a bit. this is worse. comparing it to other albums, it could be a lot worse. some tracks have a bit of character, ... read more
i found this album to be much better than joy division's debut. when listening i was put in a trance-like state. there was nothing else i could focus on. each track had energy and was engaging, i could feel what joy division was trying to put across. the hooks and lyrics of each song were improved from the last LP, and they matched the equally improved instrumentals. a masterpiece that is made only once in a lifetime.
fav tracks: isolation, the eternal
really solid LP. i just dont find madlib to be a very good rapper. the production was outstanding, i wouldnt expect any less from madlib, but his rapping voice just bothers me. it could be a lot worse, and is better than even the natural voices of some of the rappers of today, but its still bothersome. alter your voice a little differently, and then it might be better.
fav tracks: bad character, astro black
damn this is nice and peaceful. this LP made me realize just how ahead of his time aphex twin was and how good he is at making electronic music, especially without all of the technology available today. the only gripe I have for this is that it got to be a little repetitive.
fav track: green calx
easily the best rihanna has given us yet. there was some really dark and heavy production on this LP that was matched very well with rihanna's voice. some songs were really well done, went hard and are well rounded. but after track 9 this album lags a bit. the tracks get to be slower and more upbeat, very different compared to the first half. none of them are too bad, but they dont match the pretty articulate first half. not amazing, but a solid listen that gives rihanna a more refreshing ... read more
a change in production for bjork, but for the better. volta shifted bjork from her traditional style to a sound that was more in the with modern times. she had her breathtaking vocals to back herself up, which helps a lot when youre the best singer of all time. at this point, its basically bjork doing what she does best, and thats why its a great album. there are a couple shortcomings, like the crazily messed up production on declare independence, but those can easily be overlooked by the ... read more
i can definitely see the appeal in this album, but this really isnt for me. the instrumentation was well done, however it was the vocals that kinda got on my nerves. the first 2 tracks were hard and heavy compared to the rest of the album, really teased me. i heard the rest and wasnt necessarily disappointed, but came into the LP with the wrong mindset. good, but i dont see it the same way as basically everyone else does.
fav tracks: tame, debaser

the versions of kids and time to pretend on this EP absolutely SHIT ON the versions that made it onto oracular spectacular. the drop on time to pretend hypes me up every time i hear it.
not even gonna front, this is a great song. i wish miley made more music like this before she went insane.
unorganized and really underwhelming. luckily it was just a mixtape, but i expected more from lupe after the amazing tetsuo and youth... oh well.
EDIT: ok, there really isn't a ton of substance or character to this album compared to what Gorillaz has in the older end of their discography. Some great tunes are on Plastic Beach, but it is not nearly what I believed it was.
ive found this record to be a bit better than its predecessor, demon days. plastic beach is one of the most cohesive albums i have ever listened to. it has everything i could want in an album of this caliber. near masterpiece quality.
plastic beach is definitely one ... read more
the production was incredible, some of the best that i have heard in hip hop from 2014. but the lyrics really bring the rest of the LP down. the rappers on here just arent as engaging as the production is, i feel like they dont make any major contribution to the album. lese majesty was really chill, relaxed, and a solid project, but the verses on each song cant match the off-kilter production.
fav track: noetic noiromantics
an honest and very vibrant album. there were some songs that were just so infectious that i couldnt hate the whole project. it did get repetitive and a little shallow, but i still had a great time listening to this, sky ferreira knows how to make a nice tune
fav tracks: boys, 24 hours
this wasnt a bad album, i just wasnt using this as it is meant to be used: for dancing. its a good LP with some catchy tracks and really great production, i just cant find myself ever going back to this, unless i need dance music for whatever reason. for the time it was released, it's a big step for electronic music. but when i have many more options at my disposal now, this isnt what i would go to.
