One of the best psychedelic hip hop albums I’ve ever heard, lots of bangers here mixed in with some really dreamy/beautiful songs. The slower moments and the contributions from Joe fox really work for me.
Songs like lsd, excuse me, jukebox joints, canal st, and fine whine are some of the best songs in the psych hip hop genre and I think just about every risk Rocky takes pays off well here. It doesn’t have much (if any) replay-ability for me in 2023 but I still think this is his ... read more
I actually don’t think this is THAT awful
But don’t tell any of my friends
I’m at a loss for words. I put this on while I was making food and I had to pull the food off of the stovetop and just sit in front of my speakers, I could not believe what I was hearing. It reminded me a lot of lift your skinny fists but much more accessible and easy to listen to.
The intensity of these instrumental passages paired with the vocals and lyrics were emotionally devastating in the best way. There were moments of jazz influence that really helped even out some of the ... read more
Easily his best album. There are several classic 2010’s pop songs here that are enjoyable to me now that I’m not an angsty teen who hated popular music. Sorry, Where are you now, and What do u mean dominated the radio when I was fifteen and when looking at these songs (along with many of the other strong tracks here) it’s pretty obvious that the production is the strongest point of these songs. It has that somber, mid-tempo, melodramatic dance pop sound that skrillex had ... read more
Production is outdated, some silly song ideas and bad lyrics here and there but I really really loved this album as a kid and can still recite every single lyric to every song here.
Yeah I recognize it’s nowhere near as enjoyable or good as I thought it was back then, but I think this is better than almost everything Eminem has done since relapse besides MMLP2. He sounds very hungry and passionate here and his flows are so smooth, I miss this Eminem. Royce is as strong as ever and they ... read more
A continuation that is just as solid, fun. crazy, experimental and well executed as the album.
This is a great addition to my AOTY, really love that we got a track with Danny's calmer voice and Peggy's unique and stunning production.
My favorite track was NO! it could have easily made the album and been one of the best tracks there.
My favorite lyric on the pack I just wanted to point out was I believe on HERMANOS when Danny says "I caught carpel tunnel cuz I was holdin it ... read more
In The Good Place, She Hates Me is played on repeat in hell as a means of torture. I’ll never forget that, made me laugh so hard.
This is fucking awful. It’s like wal mart version nirvana with obvious watering down for pop appeal. I do have a soft spot for blurry, and a good chunk of this album isn’t offensively bad (like she hates me is, or the lyric about getting his ass smacked on control) but none of this is really good.
I have a soft spot/love-hate relationship for ... read more
Bland with some instrumental and vocal highlights here and there. Nothing special. Nothing offensively bad.
A beautiful mess. I got lost in the guitars here in the same way I get lost in Loveless. There were some really cool instrumental moments and every vocal performance here was nothing short of amazing.
My favorite moments of this album were when the guitar was just shredding and the percussion was just fucking going. Vamos is a great example of this, a think this album flows very well and has a lot of good to great songs.
One of the best metal albums of the 2000’s and the best album SOAD ever made. I’ll be listening to this for the rest of my life, this is one of the best examples of “lightening in a bottle” I can think of.
I listen to this and wonder how a group of guys created something this amazing with so much grit and power but still with such pop appeal. Brilliant
This album is so absurd and fun. By far the most enjoyable SOAD record to put on for me, these songs are incredibly catchy and still hit so hard.
The politically charged songs are as impactful as ever and songs like Cigaro, BYOB and Violent Pornography are some of the most FUN metal songs I’ve ever heard. That’s how I’d put this album, fun. It’s so fun in all the right ways and has unlimited replay-ability because of that.
“MY COCK IS MUCH BIGGER THAN ... read more
If the best moments here were just added to mesmerize to create one long double album it would be the best in their discography in my opinion. The highs here (hypnotize, vicinity, holy mountains, lonely day) are some of my favorite SOAD songs. This album is just really inconsistent because these masterpieces are surrounded by songs that are just kind of bland and forgettable. None of this is outright bad, but there’s so many moments where I’m just left thinking “that’s ... read more
Ruby’s voice really works with this punk/emo rock sound. This is the most interesting thing to come out of G59 in awhile and I hope DUCKBOY keeps experimenting with this sound and gives us a whole album with a little more variety and maybe a blend of this new sound and his signature sound.
Suicide boys have gone metal/rock before (think their EP with Travis Barker) but it never really clicked with me like this has. Yes it feels a little derivative of the “warped tour” bands ... read more
I want to like this so bad. I see potential in Tuv but it’s just not quite there. The lyrics and his voice just feel juvenile in the worst way and it’s hard not to cringe all through this.
The production choices and vocal treatment is really great though. I also love the aesthetic and I think this is a huge improvement from his last album.
Lots of personality and great production but there were times were the hooks didn’t really land and some of the rapping performances struggled to keep me fully engaged.
That being said, jadagrace’s voice was phenomenal and the songs here that work really work. I had a lot of fun listening to this and there were parts that I thought were really really great (American Psycho). The versatility and meshing of genres and influences really really blew me away. It was hard not to have a ... read more
I respect it for what it is and enjoyed different pockets throughout the album but the southern stuff felt gimmicky to me and his voice never really clicked with me.
It’s obviously musically brilliant, has some infectious energy and super well written but it just never really connected with me or felt super interesting. This review isn’t really going to to too much into the music and is more about my feelings toward it, because I don’t even feel that strong interest/drive to ... read more
I loved this album growing up. It’s a little stereotypical and derivative of much better bands, but falling on and paralyzer are still songs I come back to.
This is a very listenable post-grunge rock album that has some funk-rock and pop influences that make this a great time capsule for what dad-rock sounded like in 2011.
Uzi absolutely kills this metal/punk inspired sound. As soon as I heard amped I knew this album had a unique sound that is likely going to age similarly to how WLR has.
There is Carti influence all over the Pink Tape in the best way. I was worried the 26 tracks would be way too long, but someway somehow it actually works. These songs are polished and all have their place. This might be the first album since WLR and Donda to have a track list THIS bloated that actually ends up working to the ... read more
