This album is so ethereal and has such a distinct ambient sound that is equal parts beautiful and eerie.
The airy instrumentation makes me feel weightless and full of nostalgia, her voice floats on each piece in a way that is both haunting and angelic, I can’t get enough of it.
I heard “the ghost has no home” playing at a record store and I had to check this out. So glad I did.
I am really not sure what there is to like here, this really let me down.
I was expecting so much more out of Amine's rapping and Kaytranada's production. The rapping felt bland and uninteresting and the beats felt like they were missing something. I had a really hard time finishing this album, I really know I am not having a good time with a project when I think a Big Sean verse is the most enjoyable part of the whole tracklist.
I enjoyed the first three tracks but it really seemed to take ... read more
Wow. Kesha's masterpiece.
This was lyrically interesting, the production was experimental (and dare I say boundary pushing for a mainstream pop artist), and felt emotionally heavy.
I liked every song here and thought there were some moments (like the second half of the drama or the entirety of eat the acid) that were just phenomenal. I have been a big kesha fan since 2009 and I always saw streaks of brilliance in her music, this feels like those moments of brilliance turned into a full ... read more
The most peaceful animal collective album. If feels like what I imagine a peaceful death to feel like. Songs like loch raven and banshee beat are some of the softest and most intimate songs in their entire discography.
The topic of love and relationships (along with betrayal and acceptance) are approached in a way that feels very abstract, but also very direct at the same time. Did you see the words feels like the beginning of a relationship, grass and purple bottle feel like the peak and ... read more
The greatest live album of all time.
The culmination of everything that makes Daft Punk so amazing, with something a little extra special that really makes these songs POP in a way that they just don’t on their studio albums. I think this is the best thing Daft Punk ever did; and my favorite studio album by them hadn’t even come out yet.
Praying for an alive 2027, lol.
This has always been one of the animal collective albums that intimidates me. I’ve always loved chocolate girl and penny dreadfuls (I think these are some of the best songs in their whole discography). The high pitch frequencies always turned me away and the vocals are mixed so weird.
This last week I’ve been listening to it every day, and I still think those are potential negatives that make this album one of their least accessible, but underneath the alien sounding noises ... read more
Some of the best lyrics I’ve ever heard period. This album stands apart from all of the other producer-rapper collaborations that have been releasing over the last decade, it feels like a modern classic similar to Alfredo in its importance.
The jazzy production that sometimes gets incredibly dark mixed with wood’s sharp-as-a-knife delivery made it nearly impossible for me to focus on anything other than the music for this album’s runtime.
The dark and heavy horns on hangman ... read more
I actually think this is a lot better than their debut, and I love the title track here way more than I ever did death metal (and I really like death metal)
I have tickets to see them next week because of how solid of an EP I thought this was. The walls of guitar on songs like Gwen Everest, the smooth and clear acoustic sound on until I know and the electric decomposition of think that’s too wise in the second half are all done so well.
I really like the outro instrumental here too, it ... read more
Just listened to this whole album front to back for the first time while driving my cat to the vet
I had fun with every song. I’ve known dance yourself for as long as I can remember, so when I realized I was enjoying drunk girls even more I knew I was in for a pleasant drive.
I loved every track here, pow pow pow and I can change especially. I need to listen to more LCD soundsystem for sure, this album was the definition of all killer no filler and it’s totally worth all of the ... read more
When I was depressed, this was the only album that really GOT me. There was about a two year period where music just didn’t connect with me anymore. I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia and having many failed brain surgeries and I just wanted to die so bad.
I remember listening to this album on loop every single day. Sometimes hours and hours at a time. The music, his abstract lyrics and just the feeling it gave me made me feel less alone. I think this is one of the most ... read more
This was my introduction to Redveil and I was pleasantly surprised. He really seems to have hunger in his voice on most every song here and several of these beats (including black enuff and pwf) are some of my favorite hip hop beats this year.
It was way catchier than I was expecting with some of these hooks being stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Captain was the only song here I probably won't ever listen to again. I am excited to see where he goes next.
So much comfort, so much nostalgia. This album is like a warm blanket in the middle of winter for me. It expanded what my brain processed as "good music" when I was 16 and I still connect to these songs and their lyrical content on a deep level.
For the longest time, "Pretty Sweet" was my favorite song on here, I point that out to say: even the less popular tracks here are stunning and beautiful songs. When I think of this album I think of acoustic instrumentals and pitched ... read more
Th, Beach Boys on acid, basically. Which is funny because discovering this album on LSD when I was 18 with my best friends was an experience I will never forget. In the following days Animal Collective were all I would listen to and they are now my favorite band of all time and I know every song, including various live versions intimately.
This is one of their masterpieces and is the perfect entry point to the band, while it is not my personal favorite I understand why most people consider ... read more
My personal favorite AC album, I love every single song here for different reasons. They all sound very different and have entirely different sounds but somehow fit together extremely well on one album.
I have gone through individual phases of being obsessed with each and every song here over the last four years for individual qualities that I would fall in love with.
Peacebone has some of the most mysterious and nostalgic lyrics out of any AC song and the refrain is sweet and really feels ... read more
This album pulls emotions out of me that are so deep and so profound that I feel like my world is entirely shattered every time I put this on front to back. I feel every single song on this album on such a deep level I have a hard time relating to anyone else when it comes to talking about it. There are a few other pieces of art I have encountered in my life that do this, but this album pulls from such a broad array of emotions it is absolutely astounding that a single piece of music can do ... read more
An album that is actually worthy of being considered a masterpiece and a classic. This album has several of the best guitar riffs of all time and Hetfield's voice never sounded better.
This and Master of Puppets are neck and neck for the best thrash metal album of all time in my opinion, if Escape was not on here I may consider this a perfect 10.
I may need to relisten to creeping death a few more times and read along with the lyrics to get more out of it.
I think Fade to Black is the ... read more
This is nice and has a very interesting backstory. It is like great value radiohead and I mean that in a good way. I bought concert tickets because of how much I enjoy to throw this on in my living room and game or do homework. It sets a vibe really well and I really think Death Metal is a masterpiece.
Hey this is actually pretty good. Sounds a lot like 2011 Drake if he was more vulnerable and less sing-songy.
I probably won't come back to it, but that says more about my taste than it does the quality of the album. It is everything I could ask from Jack and it was honestly surprising how conscious he gets on here.
The intro and Gang Gang Gang are my favorites. I also really appreciate how the beats are simple and stick to a consistent sound throughout the ten songs. It's nothing amazing but ... read more
