ヨルシカ [Yorushika] - 夏草が邪魔をする [The Summer Grass Is Getting in My Way]

What a great album all around. Nice instrumental tracks, which plays into the story of the album I'm sure, but even at face value, they are all just composition flexes by N-buna, interesting piano tracks without playing complex ass chords can be hard to do, whilist being original.

The guitar play in this album is just amazing; so many addicting riffs, Yorushika is truly revolutionary for J-rock. The bassline in Track 2 was amazing, all instruments, and N-buna will never fail the drums, ... read more

ZTMY has really evolved as an artist, especially in terms of instrumental layering. J-Pop compositions don't get much better than this; their growth is outstanding, and ACA-ne is as good a vocalist as ever. If anything, I actually think this is her best album vocally, which says a lot, because she performs some crazy vocal feats in her prior albums.

Almost Human is gonna blow up, it's like the most traditional Zutomayo song ever, that's just what they do. All the shorter songs ... read more

Incredible album, with insanely deep meaning. This solidified Yorushika.

Just did a full listen, the amount of depth in this Album, it even has a novel, and a follow up album "Elma." As a concept album it's a 10/10 easily, the story it tells has so much layers, you can find a VERY high level of relatability in the songs, or connect the characters and songs to tell a story. It goes over a lot of themes of nostalgia and love, and also uses a lot of symbolism elements like ... read more

"So with that being said, it's really just the strongest J-Pop elements (catchy pop chords, addicting melodies to most, great lyrics, great vocals, beautiful arrangement, j-pop song structure) being brought in a traditional J-Rock element, while still having Yorushika all over it. Lastly, well it's your opinion, but saying the EP lacks a standout track is something I've never heard before lol. Hitchcock, ALDNAE, Just a Sunny Day for You, Bomber. The list goes on, all those songs are rather influential and bangers in my opinion. Whether it be instrumentally, vocally, story/lyrics wise, or just the purpose they serve in the album, all of them are great more or less. So ye, that's why ppl love it. To each their own tho."

"Catchy chord progressions, great use of space (N-buna is elite at this), panning guitars, and amazing guitar solos as usual. The structures themselves are pretty fundamental, but the actual execution is done at a very high bar. So with this in mind, it isn't BAD J-rock to most, and it isn't bad J-Rock objectively either (although I don't like treating music that way). It's just very traditional, although with such a strong vocal to it, you can say that's what sets it apart. I do understand your frustration of the album not being too diverse, but some albums are just crafted with different intentions. Last part -->"

"You said you don't understand the high ratings? Let me help you understand then. As you said yourself, the vocals are great, as well as the composition and whatnot, but it really doesn't fall short elsewhere. Yes, this album is J-Rock to the core, and as my good friend @algernon185 said, Yorushika, with their first 2 EPs, and their 3rd album Plagiarism, really pushed the Yakousei movement, that being the Pop-Rock inspired Vocaloid producer made style of J-Pop/J-Rock, leading a whole new field of creativity that brings the best out of both instrumentals and vocals. This album tells an abstract story, while bringing the best out of traditional J-Rock (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, catchy drums, rhythmic basslines). 2nd comment for part 2 -->"

"It's crazy tho. I think this album has really shown us how interesting ZTMY can be instrumentally and composition wise. This is arguably one of the most interesting/layered albums i've ever seen as far as composition goes. They seriously have to work on their album rollouts and just dumping singles. It isn't a bad thing, like you said, japan and the music industry actually benefits this, but I'm not a fan."

"L take tbh. This album is a series of novel/poem, as a concept album, I think 22 tracks is fine. For the sake of listening, I understand tho, and the album can get a bit repetitive in the first half."
