Noname - Sundial

Noname has been one of my favorite artists for a long time. I was always a person who connects closely to the artist as a person --- making it difficult for me to listen to someone who is not a good person --- so I connected deeply with the jazz and poetry that surrounds Noname. After five long years, Sundial arrives without much thoroughfare. It has the trademarks of Noname's music: flourishes of cosmic jazz, gorgeous humming, and searing and blithe commentary on being alive. After reading ... read more

I discovered Indigo De Souza earlier this year, and her particular brand of visceral indie rock has captivated my ears for these last few months. Saddle Creek decided to ship All Of This Will End early, so I had the privilege to listen to the album front-to-back a handful of times before it releases this week. While I still hold that her two previous records are better in most regards, this album is a lovely piece of indie pop.

The singles of this album were disorienting and made it difficult ... read more

I have been utterly obsessed with this album for a few months at this rate, and it has began to overtake some of my favorite albums of all time. Any Shape You Take while not the most cutting edge indie rock records out there is an amazing listen, bolstered by De Souza's visceral, emotive. songwriting.

The album opens with "17" is a fuzzy indie pop track that flushes De Souza's voice into a vocoder. It is not an impressive song by any record, just simply pleasant to listen to, so it ... read more

Kara Jackson - Why Does the Earth Give Us People to Love?

I thought this was beautiful. I learned of Kara Jackson when she was the national youth poet laureate, and her book Rhinestone Cowboy has been on my reading list for a long time. When I learned she made music, I admittedly expected something like jazz rap or R&B considering she's from Chicago; anything but a country folk record.

I don't really listen to country unless you consider country pop (Taylor Swift, The Chicks, Kacey Musgraves) or folk rock (Tomberlin) or somewhere in between (Faye ... read more

boygenius - the record

The long-awaited follow-up to their EP back in 2018 (and also anyone who has been anxiously waiting for new Phoebe Bridgers material), the record is a genuinely pleasing... record that should sate anyone who are into these three artists.

The three artists who make up boygenius: Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker fall into a niche of indie rock that is, to be quite frank, for the girls and the gays. The kindest descriptor I have for their audience is simply white bisexual girls with ... read more

About

Harley / he/him / 22 / Maryland

I tend to only listen to music that I like hence my high scores. My favorite genres are pop and R&B and I listen to mostly, if not all, female artists.

Anything above a 70 is something I genuinely enjoy. My entire library is what I own on CDs and digitally with Apple Music if it does not exist physically.

Feel free to drop me a message here or Twitter! I like meeting new people and listening to new music.
