Every song on Discovery seems immediately familiar, likely attributable to how the album becomes more influential year in and year out. I imagined it started small with brief samples by Kanye West and Jazmine Sullivan before spiraling out to hearing Daft Punk’s heartbeat in almost every electronic and disco artist that came after them.

Discovery is not my favorite album, not even by a long mile. The first few tracks are amazing before it collapses into a lovely if not disengaging middle ... read more

Outside of his major singles like "Starboy" and "Blinding Lights," I never get Abel Tesfaye a true attempt. I immensely enjoy his popular songs as they occupy this very lurid type of R&B that is both fun and seductive, although sustaining that through an entire album seemed too daunting for me. As per my new years resolutions, I wanted to give this stalid radio mainstay a try.

The first thing that captured me about the record was naturally the album cover. I know they ... read more

I am actually quite excited for this album now. The genre shifts can be a bit jarring --- the folk balladry from the title track to this buoyant dance/disco pop of this track but Let's Eat Grandma's sound has always been characterized by their eccentricism. Perhaps my joy for this song is because I am going through something a bit too similar but that is the power of music, ain't it?

My experience with Sublime like a lot of people started with a certain rhythm game called Guitar Hero where the song "Santeria" was ubiquitous. I never listened to Sublime beyond "Santeria" although I was always drawn to the imagery behind the band itself particularly with the death of Bradley Nowell and the presence of Lou Dog, individuals significant to the band almost more than the music itself. My interest in Sublime returned eleven years later with Lana Del Rey's cover ... read more

Upon the recommendation of some of my friends --- particularly friends that really like folk rock and punk records --- Will Wood was on the top of my queue for a bit. His tracks filtered in and out of the radio when we driving to a haunted house on Halloween, and I was drawn to the bombastic piano. Considering how I have been trying to get back into punk music for a while, or at least expanding my palette beyond the holy trinity of emo bands, I gave this record a whirl.

If I had to distill ... read more

Dua Lipa never particlarly interested me as an artist because of "New Rules," a great song but one that didn't appeal to me for whatever reason. Because of my sudden interest into disco and dance-inspired music thanks to Jessie Ware, Daft Punk, and Arcade Fire, Future Nostalgia appeared on many lists of albums that fall under those similar genres. I was not all uninterested in listening to Lipa --- she had a great voice. Because of the pretty album cover and how promising the two ... read more

Hey Mate,
Just wondering if you were able to contribute to a list by @CamDoesMusic and @truthfulreviews based upon your 10 favourite 90's albums. This would work through you messaging myself a list from 1 being the best and 10th being the 10th best album you have listened to from the 90's. If you are able to contribute with a quote summarising the particular album as well that would be awesome! Your information delivered to us will be used to create a list named "AOTY Users Favourite 90's Albums".

Thank You So Much, Have a Great Day :)

All albums I own physically (CDs) or digitally if I had no other choice. Pop, R&B, and indie rock girls are my favorite genres.

100 ~ 85: Favorites of all time.

80 ~ 70: Good albums.

65 ~ 60: Okay, or completely average but still listenable.

50 ~ 0: I probably wanted a refund or my favorite artist flopped (Lorde).
