Gorillaz - Humanz

This whole album feels exactly like the Saturnz Barz music video.

Humanz is an interesting project. It's quite different from other projects under the Gorillaz name for multiple reasons.

There's a huge amount of talent brought in from all genres and backgrounds to lend a hand to this album. And for the most part, all of them do a great job at offering what they're best at. This gives the album a special kind of feeling where every track is completely vocally distinct. There are a couple tracks where I don't feel like the guests held up to their true potential though, like D.R.A.M. on Andromeda especially (still one of the stronger tracks). On the contrary, some of the features absolutely kill it. Vince Staples is amazing on Ascension, Danny Brown gives an interesting and concise verse on Submission, along with Kelela, and Peven Everett gives one of my favorite sung performances on the album on Strobelite.

The main pitfall of the album though, was sadly the production. The excitement of the sound of the album fades after the first few tracks, and what we're left with becomes monotonous further into the album. It seems like Damon found a sound that he really liked, and decided to reproduce it over and over again. With the exception of a few tracks, such as Charger, and Busted and Blue.
One other, more minor problem with the production, which I'm not sure whether or not it was intentional, was a low to mid static sound that emanates across some portions of the album. Most of the time it is not present, which is why it was a minor issue for me. But during some of the quieter parts it is very noticeable and kind of obnoxious. Some of the tracks also sometimes felt intentionally low fidelity, which leads me to believe that this was intended to be part of the "vibe" of the album.

For the most part, this album was fun and entertaining. But it could get repetitive at some points. The monotonic feel of the album prevents it from being what could have been a fantastic fifth LP. But there are some great tracks on here.

Favs: Momentz, Ascension, Let Me Out, Charger, and Strobelite.

Least fav: Sex Murder Party.

EDIT: Yes, I listened to the version on Spotify. All complaints regarding mixing/production are 1000% not from the shitty leaked rip that we got.
