@TherynsReviews's take
"my hottest take is probably my score for Glenn Branca's The Ascension. My score is like a 46 when the average is well into the green."
@CJay's take
"One take I posted on twitter was Quadeca's "I Didn't Mean to Haunt You" is a modern classic. Mainly because it's an album that sounds unique and has so many emotions that I have never heard in a record before, maybe even ever."
@StygianHollow's take
"i do think that desire i want to turn into you is extremely mid π"
@UltimateLifeFrm's take
"My hottest take would probably be that Ants from Up There is not #1 AOTY worthy.
It's a great album (I gave it a 90), but it's not the masterpiece of writing that a majority of users suggest it is."
@RemisReviews's take
"I'd go with Trench by Twenty One Pilots, I gave it a 13/100 and I still stand by it lol people gave me shit for that one"
@Calupmullings's take
"Weezer blue album mid"
@ImpalaLT's take
"Music from Perfume Genius is boring as fuck. He’s like Lana Del Rey except somehow much less engaging, and he sounds tired on every song."
@PhobixTheGuy's takes
"I’ll go with giving The End, So Far by Slipknot an 80. People seem to hate on that album, I really enjoyed it personally."
@PhobixTheGuy's takes
"Pantera is boring as hell in my opinion. The mixing and production on their albums is terrible, the vocals are shoddy, and I think they only have a couple of good songs in my opinion."
My take
Jeff Buckley is a far superior singer than Thom Yorke. I feel like Jeff has a more diverse vocal range and temper, he wrote better vocal melodies and his influations when he sings are more expressive than Thom's.
@firedneutral's takes
"I think my biggest one would be that I think "The Turning Wheel" by Spellling is just alright. It doesn't do much for me, as it's too theatrical for my tastes. I appreciate what they're doing, but it's not something I really wanna go back to."
@firedneutral's takes
"Camp by Childish Gambino is a 5/100."
@FJuan's take
"i think that eminem never was good by any mean, bro sounds corny af and his lyrics are pathetic in every way possible."
@henriqueimoveis's take
"Death Grips sucks, they make the most annoying and tacky music possible and MC Ride's voice is terrible"
@britpop_cornpop's take
"my hot take is that Danger Days is MCR's best album and i'll stand by that till the day i die i love defending that album
i think it has the coolest story/world out of all their albums and as for the music itself it's super upbeat and fun it's just a big dance party"
@koxtil's take
"I have Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me at 49. How I feel about it is more akin to me being at a classic concert. It sounds pretty and it sounds rather complex, but nothing about it is interesting at all for me."
@DemaCalling96's take
"my hot take is… LOVELESS BY MY BLOODY VALENTINE IS PROBABLY THE MOST OVERRATED ALBUM OF ALL TIME!!
It’s just so boring. There’s only a few times where I’m actually interested in the album, like with When You Sleep and Loomer. But most of the time, I just don’t care for the record and there’s just so many better shoegaze projects. I don’t see why so many people think it’s a masterpiece and praise it so much."
@Brando's takes
"I think that one I have is that I thought that Mercury Act 1 by Imagine Dragons is a good album. I thought that it was a good album and was a step up from Evolve and Origins. The production was good on this one, the instrumentals were quite good, and the vocals are really good in my opinion (even though I was mixed on them at first). The lyrics could use some past, but I liked this one."
@Brando's takes
Same as Act 1
@ark111's take
"I don't like Oasis.
Their music sounds like a Beatles copy band.
I also don't like other commercial music.
I like the unique sound even if it doesn't sell :)"
@Crazynumnums's takes
"I'd probably go with Awaken My Love by Childish Gambino. User score is 80 but I've got it at a 39, I've just always found it to be super empty and never really understood the praise given to singles like Me And Your Mama or Baby Boy"
@Crazynumnums's takes
"I've also got the Crystal Castles debut at a 39 (user score = 80)"
@Moi_stee's take
"Turn It Off is Paramore's best song ever.
Reason: The guitar is just so catchy & Hayley's vocality was on full display in this song"
@Menino_Desligad's take
"Nirvana's Nevermind is pretty overrated, even though it has good songs, but it's just a nice 90s rock album, I don't think it's one of the best in history."
@Jaur's take
"in my opinion Parannoul is way overhyped and their newest album was extremely mid. nothing felt special about it and it felt like a waste of time."
@Windy's take
"I really am not a fan of Filosofem by Burzum, and I think that his album before it is MUCH better. Not the most controversial hot take but considering it’s often considered the ‘best’ black metal album… maybe?"
@SupItsChase's takes
"Gorillaz is overrated, their music just doesn't do much for me, people look at them like they're the pinnacle of music, all because they released Feel Good Inc. But their recent albums have been pretty stale in comparison to their previous stuff, which I think is good, but not the holy grail. While I did give Demon Days a 91, I barely listen to it at all, and that's probably on me, same with Plastic Beach which I gave an 87."
@SupItsChase's takes
"MF DOOM is the greatest rapper of all time, period. He has the best discography with multiple aliases that come together to create a really immersive comic story, his storytelling ability is incredible, and his ability to rhyme each syllable with the next syllable is still unmatched by any other rapper, and it's all made better by the fact that he kept his identity secret."
@barcooper's take
"So in my opinion Tha Carter III by Lil Wayne is super overrated.
A lot of the songs on the album has aged horribly, Lil Wayne has plenty of corny and stupid bars throughout the album and the production is quite mediocre on a decent amount of the tracks."
@SupItsChase's takes
"I listened to Soundgardens 'Superunknown', and I didn't really listen to it much to begin with, but, I started listening to the songs more often, and I've started to enjoy it more, and I personally think that Superunknown is better than Nevermind by Nirvana, but it also might be a case of recency bias as I've been going through and listening to the songs, and I just enjoy it more. Don't get me wrong, Nevermind is an incredible album, I love it a lot, but Superunknown has some really good songs on it as well."
@nino21321312312's take
"Fka twigs >>>> Rihanna & Beyonce"
@artyomin's take
"In Rainbows is insanely overrated. The fusioning of electronic music and rock is off-putting and even tacky occasionally, the songwriting is strangely formless most of the time, and the whole album experience is kinda incohesive tbh. The only two things holding this album together are its eclectism and its lyrics. Otherwise, it just leaves me more so confused than satisfied.
I mean, it's still kinda good, but would I say it's one of the best albums of all time like other people do? Nuh-uh, I don't think so."
@Wheezer's take
"my personal hot take is giving The Matches - Decomposer a 99"
@ozymvndias's take
"uknowhayimsayin > Atrocity Exhibition.
Not my hottest take but it's definitely an unpopular opinion."
@maryfreegirl's take
"my teenage dream ended by farrah abraham is genuinely one of my favourite albums of all time, it makes me feel a different set of emotions everytime i listen to it on top of just being funny by itself"
@pinio985's take
"Bring me the horizon, linkin park, and other "pop-metal" bands are more important/valueble/influential to the metal community than they give them credit for.
While their more pop-ish output may be considered trash by people in either the metal community, rock community or pop community etc, they definitely got more eyes and ears on the metal scene and made lots of people enter the scene and discover a new passion. Some of these people may form metal bands that ensure a new kind of freshness in this scene in the future."
@SassyTabasco's take
"People are way too mean to Tones and I. "Welcome to the Madhouse" is not that bad of an album. I think music fans are taking their chance to bully an easy mark, and it's kind of lame."
@Suma’s take
“Mac miller's is a mostly really boring artist with an annoying voice“
@Kirbo’s take
“1000 gecs is one of the worst albums i've ever heard, the production is so over the top for absolutely no reason, and it feels like it's trying to "be hip and break the mold" with its production when in the end it's just glorified earrape, easy 5/100“
@hiderpnw's take
"My hot take is on the metal "community" being one of the most toxic places to be. When I was younger the elitists got me to hate literally every genre of music other than metal. Glad I got out of there when I did. I really think the elitists are destroying the genre and have been for a long time even though it's been growing in the last couple years."

@Milquetoastand‘s take
“Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood is overwhelmingly mid. The soundscapes explored by that album aren't justified by the mediocre songwriting on the record, which makes for a hollow, empty, style-over-substance listen. I'm sorry, I just can't get into it.“
@NightOwl19’s take
“I find Radiohead's OK Computer pretty overrated. It's not terrible by any means, and I liked some of the songs on it, but much of the album just didn't really interest me. The singing kind of grated on me, the instrumentation just wasn't really to my tastes, and the whole thing was a little too slow-moving to keep my attention.“
@ThomasLind‘s take
“I think How to Save a Life by The Fray is the 2nd best album of all time because it's a perfect reminder that cheesy music isn't a bad thing. The album also helped me cope after my first suicide attempt in December 2022, and shined a new light on the album. My peers [and other people on RYM & AOTY] have criticized it for being boring and lacking ambition, but it's an important album for me due to it saving my life.“
@Cbuhrer’s take
“Smoke and Mirrors by Imagine Dragons is an underappreciated gem, most people associate the band with cringe pop music now (I agree they have gone downhill) but this work is a great alt-rock record with some flairs of latin music.“
@Cyiniz’s take
“I think AJR is waaaay overhated, mainly Ok Orchestra. It may have some pretty bland writing, but I think it sounds amazing, I love the sound they have and the way they've refined it since Living Room. I think their album Living Room is better than The Click idk if that's a hot take or not.“
@Frosteria's take
"Father of all... by Green Day is actually a really enjoyable album. Not even as a "so bad its good" album, it's just straight up good. I don't really get the hate for it"
@Kirbo’s take
“"father of all" by Green Day really isnt as bad as people make it out to be, it's a pretty corny record at times but its so incredibly overhated. 'specially when albums like will of the people got a relatively more positive reception when in my opinion its just as bad, if not worse. solid 7/10 tbh“
@NoOffenseBut's take
"Self Esteem - Prioritise
Copy from my review: The critics are bonkers. Prioritise Pleasure is miles away from an 80+ score, let alone a 93. This album took some of the worst parts of generic pop music and implemented them all with substandard execution. The vocals are iffy, the lyrics are shallow, and the production is absolutely horrendous at times."
