I was kinda disappointed in this album tbh, with I Write Sins Not Tragedies (and Esteban to some extent) being the only tracks that actually made me perk up a bit. Some of the electronic noises P!ATD added felt really grating and one song (I forget which) had autotune that felt totally out of place.
The fact that that so many different artists sampled from the album just goes to show how influential it is even today. It starts off with an all-time lineup of Lost Ones to Doo Woo (That Thing), then falls into the TINIEST of slumps in the middle before picking back up with Everything is Everything and just getting better till the end. I was surprised at how good the hidden tracks were and how they felt like a breath of fresh air that wrapped this album in a perfect little bow. Very glad I ... read more
Disc 1 BARELY edges out Disc 2, mostly because of While my Guitar Gently Weeps being a top 3 Beatles Song (I will fight you one this).
Plus Revolution NINE Nine nine n i n e...
Need to listen to this again I wasn't paying attention to the lyrics because I was driving home in a snowstorm.
I've listened to The Love Below many times before, but it was just recently that I first got my hands on the Speakerboxxx CD. I've always been a bigger fan of Andre, and I really enjoy the Love Below's love letter to... love, I guess, but I have to say, Big Boi's part surprised me with how playful and creative it is. I still prefer the Love Below, but just barely.
Nvm if I thought about giving it a 90 why didn't I just do it?
EDIT: 65 -> 85
As I predicted, another listen made a huge difference. I definitely wasn't in the right mood when I first listened to this, because all of the pitched voices I found annoying/ineffective I became at the very least okay with, and everything I thought was good got a lot better.
I also paid more attention to the lyrics, which I really shouldn't have because now I feel bad for rating such a personal ... read more
I was always super curious about this album when It came out, and it took me a whole year to remember to listen to it. I have to say it surpassed my already-high expectations, and it was a pleasure to listen to when I was doing work. Will probably give another listen to get deeper into the lyrics.
As someone who doesn't really listen to metal, this is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Some bangers in this but overall doesn't do too much for me. I expected worse from some of these reviews but it's not even bad, it's just perfectly serviceable.
A couple standouts, overall flows very well and especially worth listening to at night.
