Hard rock is one of the many entire genres, like post-grunge and nu-metal, that have gotten a bad name over time among music critics, and it's not hard to see why. A majority of hard rock beyond a few notable exceptions like Alter Bridge (though even them only on a few albums) have become overly masculine cock rock or gym bro anthems about fighting against something or rising up without any real direction or purpose. With how many bands like this flood the airwaves, ones like Trapt and Godsmack, it's easy to forget that there once was and still are some really good hard rock artists out there, and this album is one of the best. Combining elements of prog rock and blues, Blue Oyster Cult manage to pull together one of the most consistently good track listings the genre has ever seen.
