Although I prefer the duo's previous album due to its scope and ingenuity, "darklight" is a testament to their talent. It is as bold and bewildering, featuring some of the most promising production in contemporary Experimental Hip Hop.
If anything, this EP is further proof that Westside Cowboy are on course to release an incredible debut album. Their energy at live shows is electrifying, and that energy carries over onto their studio recordings. I loved seeing them open for BCNR, and I'll love seeing them open for Geese. Yee-Haw!
Waves of guitars, trumpets, and countless other instruments crash upon those who choose to listen to Broken Social Scene's self-titled album, swallowing them in this storm of grandiose genre-bending Indie Rock. The follow-up to "You Forgot It In People" may not be as rich in intimacy, but it is a bolder, more anthemic album all around, featuring some truly stunning highlights.
Dry Cleaning's signature brand of Spoken Word Post-Punk is still as weirdly fascinating and mildly engaging now as it was half a decade ago.
As pristine as "Michigan" is sonically, it does not dress up the deep melancholy at the heart of the Great Lake State. With a deft hand, Sufjan Stevens pens up the struggles of the American working class, creating a portrait not of the state as it is imagined, but as it truly is.
May I live to see the American Empire burn down.
Winter's visits have become increasingly rare in this corner of the world, so when snow finally graced the country-sized flood plain I call home, I was keen not to waste the opportunity. Surprisingly, "Daydream Nation" proved the perfect soundtrack to my hike along the edge of town. Together with the endless barrage of snow and hail, the winding passages of guitar work became one entity, whilst the air was as cool as the confidence with which Sonic Youth bring every deceptively ... read more
The strongest and most cohesive album I've heard by Kali Uchis so far. The songwriting, production, and performances all come together to form this warm, dreamlike space. It is pure bliss; the sound of a Summer evening.
“The Tortured Poets Department” but it was made for emo’s and it’s actually good.
"I don't do trends," said the 58-year-old rapping on a trap beat.
JVB really come into their own on "HYPERYOUTH": an energetic yet surprisingly honest exploration of fleeting youth and club culture.
"The Art of Loving" is nothing new under the sun, and its first half is a lot stronger than its second, but I have to admit that Olivia Dean rather impressed me on this album. After all, it's hard not to be charmed by her intimate yet catchy melodies, as well as her effective explorations of love and self-worth.
"F♯ A♯ ∞", but instead of being about some lame ass shit like societal collapse, it's about cooking up some sick beats to pay your child support.
A relentless onslaught of the highest quality. "WLFGRL" is a sonic cocaine that takes total control of your body and makes it move on its own accord.
I'm going to be honest: I thought this was going to be a bunch of Joost Klein-style Europop bangers based on that cover art, but "EURO-COUNTRY" more than satisfied me regardless. It's honest, fun, and infectious; the embodiment of what Country Pop should be.
Although I'd hoped Jane Remover would explore the sound of tracks such as 'Magic I Want U' on a full album, I should really not be complaining. "♡" is a great EP after all, featuring some of my favourite singles they've released so far. There's a warmness and depth to the production here that makes it stand out in the contemporary field of glitched-out pop and trap bangers, whilst also serving as the cherry on top of what has been an incredible year for Jane.
