“Forever Howlong” is a difficult album to characterise. It is tempting to describe it purely in comparative terms, and focus on whether or not it is better or worse than “Ants From Up There”. These are two entirely different records, however, with different artistic intentions behind them. “Ants From Up There” was conceived as a holistic sonic narrative, built around its climatic finisher, ‘Basketball Shoes’, and the melancholic romanticism of ... read more
As intense yet beautiful as a solar flare hurtling towards Earth. Deafheaven's latest album is a tightly orchestrated dance between the melodic and pure noise, packed to the brim with thunderous riffs shooting off into the stratosphere. If nothing else, "Lonely People" is a reminder that I need to listen to more Blackgaze.
Less spelllbinding than I'd hoped for. The latest SPELLLING album is somewhat lacking in the magic and the lushness of "The Turning Wheel", as "Portrait of My Heart" instead sounds like the work of a 80s Glam Rock tribute band. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. In fact, all things considered, this is a pretty fun album. It just isn't as beautiful or ambitious as "The Turning Wheel".
Het is de favoriete nepo baby van Nederland toch gelukt! Driekwart van de nummers klinken precies hetzelfde maar er zitten genoeg pareltjes tussen om het album het luisteren waard te maken. ‘Sugardaddy’ is een meesterwerk.
A gorgeous and pristine folk album. At its worst it's a warm blanket. At its best it soars.
Spacious and soulful. Saba and No I.D. collaborate to make one of the year's most stellar rap albums.
As much as I try to deny it, I am an emo at heart. No wonder then that Weatherday's latest album appeals so much to me. It's a larger-than-life experience compacted into a bedroom. It's genuine.
Welcome to the future, <username>. There is no way back now.
Rent has spiked to 5 ETH after they razed half the neighborhood to build the data center. You haven’t seen the sun in months: they put up a billboard against your window. But cheer up, kid! Soon you’ll get to leave this all behind. It’s your body that’s been causing you all this hurt, you see? It’s your aching bones and sweaty skin! We’ll upload you to the cloud and then all will be well. ... read more
How fortunate I am to be alive to see this world. To see the shadows dance across the still waters. To see the clouds drift lazily across the clear blue. To see the warm sun's glow caress the flower buds on the ground below. To hear nature sing at me and to only have to listen.
Oh pray hear me, dear God! Why, for the love of You, had you not steered me onto the path of Ichiko Aoba before? How many years have I gone on without this sweet sound of magic, which sounds to me like the rippling of the water in a memory whose warmth will never fade? But I am unkind to you now! For has this music not graced my ears now? I have heard the silent moment speak, and my soul rests easy now.
Rather disappointed by this. It is not like Horsegirl's debut album, "Versions of Modern Performance", was an instant Indie Rock classic, but there was a lot of grit and energy to Slacker anthems like 'Anti-glory' and ' Dirtbag Transformation (Still Dirty)', which made them a name worth remembering to me. Whilst a lot of the subdued charm the band brought into their last album has survived on "Phonetics On and On", it has been subdued to the point of ... read more
Building upon her first spellbinding foray into the world of shoegaze, "Census Designated", Jane Remover adopts a new moniker for the release of this new album. "Ghostholding" is comparatively less operatic in scope, but this certainly doesn't mean this album doesn't have the same ambition or emotional weight as "Census Designated". The same qualities that made that album so special are present here: a sense of longing translated into soft layers of fuzzy ... read more
I do appreciate how Squid have been able to make each of their albums so far feel distinctive, whilst also having a consistent sound compared to other "Windmill scene" bands such as BC,NR. This might be the biggest leap the band has taken so far, however, crafting something more intricate and intimate than the krautrock opuses that put them on the map.
"The Bad Fire" isn't as consistent from track to track when it comes to melodic strength or production quality, but when Mogwai's instrumental prowess comes through, it comes through with force. Sweeping, melodic, entrancing, overpowering. Soft beds of dreamlike chords upon which guitars shimmer like the setting sun. This is what this album is all about at its best.
