most contemporary synthpop and darkwave artists unabashedly worship at the altar of new wave/post-punk acts like new order/omd/depeche mode, etc., but none capture the 80s’ vibe & sound in the same way that drab majesty do here. a super addicting listen with v slick production, courtesy of telefon tel aviv's josh eustis.

WHY IS IT SO GOOD

smooth, trippy, & placid ambient tracks that are designed to seamlessly fade into background of whatever you're doing. i completely understand the 'discount boards of canada' criticism, but this album clicks with me in a way that many ambient albums don't.

straightforward, no-nonsense post-punk for the late '10s. enjoyable through and through.

EDIT: bumped my rating down a bit. still an enjoyable first listen, but its appeal has slightly worn on me.

the album that singlehandedly made shoegaze click for me. every track drips with young, drug-fueled naivety and emotion, with incredibly slick and aqueous production holding everything together nicely. it's difficult to pick a favorite track on here, but '40 days' and 'when the sun hits' are definite standouts.

EDIT: this album has only grown on me over the last few months. upped my score to 95
