Lil Xan - TOTAL XANARCHY
6

Mind-numbing is an understatement. I have listened to many awful albums in my day, but this is actually the worst thing I have ever heard. I don’t think I have come across an album that was this bad without having any entertainment value. This is certainly being used by the CIA to torture people.

Sure, Head is a certified banger, but I can’t fathom why the rest of this album is so unpopular. Betrayed contains some of the best singing and writing on the project, making it a perfect opener. Say So has enough of that BANGER energy where it’s possible to play it while you’re working out, so long as you don’t need to concentrate on what you’re doing. Top Don Dada is written much better than Head, and Off the Meds had by bursting with laughter. The worst song by ... read more

twenty one pilots - Scaled and Icy
34

What have they done? If there is one thing I wasn’t expecting from these guys, it was a straight up pop album. No qualifiers, just straight pop. I would say that the shock factors into my score, but it’s been two years, and I still can’t enjoy this. Some individual songs are nice (ex: Redecorate), and the project has a generally consistent sound, but nearly everything is bland and watered-down. That personality that I love is still there, but it’s filtered to such an ... read more

twenty one pilots - Regional at Best

Regional at Best has its high points, but it’s unlistenable. The sound quality is horrible, the songwriting is almost as bad, and the vocals make me wonder how I ever enjoyed this. The production is so dated, it's a wonder that this was made between 2009/2010-2011. I honestly don’t know how all four band members could listen to a single track on this and call it good, especially good enough to release. To make matters worse, this comes after their self-titled album, which was much ... read more

Ariana Grande - Sweetener
56

This is a full-length project of generic Ariana Grande singing with generic trap beats. The production is, of course, perfectly slick, reflecting the unfortunate trend around this time of every pop artist competing to make the most thoroughly vacuum-sealed, safe album. There are some interesting moments, but those are hidden within loads of watered-down crap where very little personality is allowed to show through. Above average for radio filler because it’s good sounding radio filler. ... read more

Shinedown - Planet Zero
40

I wrote this on the spot, so it’s a bit disorganized. Maybe I will fix it later.
With this project, Shinedown pick up some intensity that was left behind on some of Attention Attention, but as with the heavier song on that album, these songs feel so manufactured in their heaviness that it carries no weight whatsoever. The instrumentation on the interludes is kind of interesting at times, even if it is conventional for the style they are doing there. However, that’s where the ... read more
