Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend

I'm never sure how I feel about this album. On one hand, the sound presented here doesn't sound nearly as developed as it would become on future VW releases, and there are some spots on this tracklist which I find to be a letdown. However, a lot of what made their next two releases such fantastic albums is very much present on the self-titled, and the fascinating instrumentation and lyrics makes this a true one of a kind album among 2000s rock. Furthermore, there are some extremely high highs here, with the catchiness to make them feel fun and the layered feeling that keeps me coming back to them. Overall, I'll just say that this is a very good album, and that the problems holding this album back from true greatness wouldn't hold the band back for long.
