Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill

An almost perfect album, with an incredibly strong set of opening tracks. However when it reaches the final couple it starts to get a bit generic and not as good as the previous ones. I love it for the most part though this is an amazing album very good but not their best. Will say that both Change Of The Guard and Turn That Heartbeat Over Again are pretty good sounds to end the album with even if they aren't the highest rated. But Do It Again - Reelin' In the Years is a GENERATIONAL ... read more

It’s pretty much just You Want It Darker vol II I mean the songs are even from the same session. There’s a point to be made about releasing music after an artist dies but this was compiled by his son and I’m sure he would’ve been happy with it. These songs are so good I’m surprised they didn’t make it onto that album. Happens to the Heart is my favorite song here, but all of these have the same very dark and reminiscent feeling that the previous album had. ... read more

The best combination I've seen of Cohen's good writing & more production with the instrumentation. It's a really good and slow listen. Thoughtful and well written lyrics, alongside much more peaceful and relaxing music compared to his previous albums. This one doesn't mark or bite as much. Definitely not as much as Songs of Love and Hate. Not saying it doesn't have bite though. There Is a War focuses on how countries call people to fight, & Field Commander Cohen ... read more

Cohen's most Folky album from the instrumentation and song content. Not a bad choice but it sort of feels like him trying to imitate a style that I'm not sure completely fits him. Like Tonight Will Be Fine is written more like a country song than anything I've heard from him, and bro isn't even from the country he's Canadian. He still uses his cool plucking style and has a couple songs that are very much like the previous album. Bird on the Wire is good, A Bunch of ... read more

Still pretty good musically but not the best from Gaye that I've heard. It seems like he just had that one really good social commentary album with What's Goin On then decided that he would start making sexy music about sex. That's what this and Let's Get It On are both about. Pretty much anyways all of these are love songs, and I loved the bunch outside of the ones that had moaning in the background. These are intense and passionate though. I can say that at least. Out of ... read more

Still a work in progress. Cohen is EASILY my favorite songwriter. Better than Dylan but you aren't ready for that conversation.
