I’m not exactly sure why this is a mixtape other than Dominic not wanting to canonize it as one of his studio albums, but ok. The songs here are way too short to get invested in. There really isn’t anything here that is substantial because it isn’t given the time of day. This really should have been an EP because it’s just too short to be a mixtape, yet at the same time there’s somehow twelve tracks. There just isn’t that much that Dominic Fike is ... read more
I contemplated doing her discography from the beginning, but I’m impatient and I have free will, so I’m starting here because I feel like it. This is praised as an extremely influential and amazing album in general and I can understand why. It is great, but I did feel like it lacked truly memorable songs on it. This is my first full Madonna album and, while it is great, there is no song that stood out like a Vogue, Like a Prayer, or even a Hung Up. That being said as a collective, ... read more
I honestly added this to my spin list because of the cover and was pleasantly surprised to discover an actually great album. I'm usually not a fan of any type of noise album at all, but this one intrigued me. It is immediate and immersive in its dark and disturbing content with great production to back it up. It's a great story that is best to be experienced in full and I feel this album is way too dense for me to do it justice in a review anyways.
Their best album by quite a bit for me. This is still a bit too abrasive to me, but this is as close to bearable this group gets. Ride's delivery is a big reason for this being my favorite. There are way more tracks where Ride's delivery is bearable than the dreadful style he would develop in their later works.
Big miss. JPEGMAFIA and Earl both releasing slop during their beef was not on my bingo card to say the least. I have enjoyed some of his previous work and I have also not enjoyed some of his previous work. However, this is the worst I've heard from JPEGMAFIA. It is so very pretentious and desperate to prove how profound it is when, in reality, that couldn't be further from the truth. Hard to get through.
One of Deathgrip's better releases. There were a few songs that I actually enjoyed. As a whole, however, I still find their style is just not for me at all. I just don't get it. It's way too out there for me and, to me, it holds little to no meaning other than trying to sound confusing and different.
I actually saw a vision for the first two tracks and thought that this might be the best of the three that Drake released, but I was quickly proven wrong by the remaining songs. I think this is the style that Drake shows the most personality in, a more Hip House kind of vibe, but it is executed very poorly here.
Yikes. Not the worst Drake album I've heard, but this isn't great. Wasn't expecting much from this, but it's just more of the same from Drake for me. Unremarkable songs from a guy who I don't really think is that talented. He tries so very hard to come off as cool after losing his beef with Kendrick last year almost embarrassingly so and it does not work. He has producers that are clearly talented, but his flow sucks and he gives zero personality in this style of music.
Daft Punk's worst album, but still not bad. I think this went for a more raw vibe than any of their other works, which works only sometimes. There are some odd choices on here, but there are a few songs that are great. Overall, a mixed bag that leans to the passable side.
I think some of this is tolerable, but I still can't help but struggle with the Ride's horrible delivery and the completely nonsensical lyrics. I will probably never understand the appeal of this type of music.
I think this album puts its atmosphere over its substance. Kid A is definitely my least favorite of the Radiohead’s “big three.” I felt that the themes on this album when it tries to inject substance in are very similar to Ok Computer and that album just does a better job in showcasing those ideas. I do still think the album is good, maybe even great, just not quite their best work.
Not quite as good as Ok Computer, but still pretty great. I felt that the overall theme, while more grounded in human emotion, less compelling than the more outward-looking critique that was Ok Computer. However, I do think that Radiohead's style really fits the more intimate and emotional songs that are on this record. Overall, a great record that encapsulates issues of love, yearning, and death spectacularly.
Overrated asf. This was so boring to me. I actually don't understand how people enjoy this so much. I was extremely disengaged, the songs were way longer than they needed to be, and the production was about as flavorful as Damon Albarn's family dinners.
I mean it's fine. I thought it was slightly better than his previous LP, but I just don't see what's so special about this guy. I don't have anything against him, but this just isn't very interesting to me, just easy listening for the most part.
A generational disco album. This is the album that would elevate Michael Jackson to his position as the premier pop star of the time. While it isn't quite as solid as Thriller in my opinion, this is still great. Michael had truly broken away from being a kid that sung with his family to being his own star.
A weird album that works because the music is great. An interesting enough story backed by pleasant instrumentation that create a very whimsical vibe.
Her best album, but this is getting way more praise than it deserves. The album really just doesn't have much to say. It's just as vapid as her other albums just packaged in, admittedly, better production. I think (finally) breaking her ties with Dr. Luke was a much needed change as you can already see the difference in the quality of production. In a year with some amazing Electropop is coming out, this just isn't a standout.
I have no other point of reference to Bladee other than his first mixtape Gluee, which I found to be extremely irritating. The lyrics and beats on that were quite bad. Sulfur Surfer is definitely better, but it's boring to me. I expected that there would be some improvement because this is his most recent album and the only other thing I've heard is his oldest. That being said I don't think it's good, just an improvement. I've been told his albums all sound relatively ... read more
