I like that she fully leaned into pop and didn't try to do what she did on Red again. There are song really good pop songs on here, but the lyrics are uninspired and the production is stale most of the time.
This album did not interest me like Speak Now did. It is not nearly as consistant. I feel like this album is really more transitional than exceptional. A major improvement from her previous two albums. I think I liked that it was less country and leaned into a more rock sound. The album being penned solely by Swift is not only a showcase of her songwriting ability, but makes the album feel very autobiographical. This has some great highs and remains interesting throughout, even in its low points.
A step up from her debut, but far from her most interesting work. This album has some catchy songs, but it was still too boring to be anything great.
Taylor Swift had a fake country accent and a dream. Her debut is not offensively bad, just lacking anything interesting outside of a few songs. This is a truly impressive feat for her age, however, and showed her great songwriting potential.
