I'm not a huge fan o singer-songwriter type albums, yet this one really stick with me.
In my opinion better than OFFLINE, the samples in OFFLINE are great but i feel he is able to utilize the samples much better in this record. Really bringing it all together.
Love the album, the best songs are almost perfect, but some of the songs just really fuck up the album because they just don't fit. Still, listened to the good songs on repeat.
Maybe the best stoner metal there is, you really feel the weight of the album.
It's a album that sounds very dated, you can notice it's very from the time, mainly the samples, and still its delivery is just masterfull. It's raw, agressive and revolting, the sampling fells very free jazzy in it's crazy sound and 'unpleasent' noises. The flow of both singers really mixes well, the high and low voices of each one creates a great contrast. And I don't think I need to say how great the lyrics are.
The best prog-soul album in my opinion, every single track is filled with a mixture of despair and hope that really fills your heart. The whole album feels like a pledge for a better future. Marvin Gaye created a masterpiece.
This album is the core of Daft Punk, everything that made them great is in this record.
It is greatly influential and a great album, but besides the novelty of having an orchestra, it fades a bit when compared to works that came after.
I would argue that Mingus is the best band leader and composer jazz ever had.
