An excellent effort of Joan Jett’s brand of no-frills rock and roll but with some of the better-written songs of her career.

The close harmony vocals placed in front of staunch reverb alongside lyrics that allude to the dark tones of the record that actually catch you off guard on your initial listen as they speak of such somber subject matter; in a way it’s the ultimate double-take as the sugary sweet vocals speak to you of death, tragedy, abuse, obsession, suicide, and revolt. This is the Raveonettes trademark and it is clear their songwriting has only risen to a new level on this record.

Rilo Kiley’s follow-up to their debut is probably the best thing they’ve ever done, as they skirt the line between Cardigans-esque indie pop and the folk/country overtones amongst indie rock guitars. This one was one of those records I had to find while traversing discographies backwards after initially finding them interesting enough to indulge my curiosity.

Carefully playing with the mid-nineties flare of noisy indie rock with infectious pop hooks as well as nods to the dream pop and shoegaze scenes of the time lies this record in the middle of their career and since it has become a classic which I have taken quite a liking to over the years. The tones are warm, fuzzy, and really welcoming amongst soothing indie pop vocals that really plop out the welcome mat for you.

The soundtrack to my childhood was the music of the golden standards of pop music and for a long time it took me awhile to really appreciate Brian Wilson’s labor of love that he poured his heart and soul into. Now, I had always loved the Beach Boys since I heard the very first collection of songs that left the car radio and entered my ears.

Oh dang, sorry I sound ominous. I was Words/Pronouns on BEA. Long story how I got here but it's nice to see a little bit of BEA here. I loved your chart! Thank you for Agalloch!

About
I discovered music analysis at a young age and enjoyed the communal identity that came with it. Fifteen years later I've found on occasion I have something interesting to say about the sounds people make to express themselves.
