as stupid and lonesome as this critique seems, the drums sound like ass. Idk if it's the way the were EQ'd or if they were compressed in a weird way but it makes my my ears feel all weird and not in a good way. Great songs tho
It's genuinely a good song, and I'm very nostalgic for it but I can't associate this with anything else but rip-off millennial burger joint music.
Slightly surprised its their lowest rated. Love the spaghetti western themes and narration even if it can get a bit stale at times. I dig it, good shit.
I pains me to give a score this low to a gorillaz record but I can't help but be honest with myself.
It feels like so much grand production and features are being thrown into these songs that have very little to offer in terms of world building or narrative, which gorillaz are one of very few bands that can pull that off near flawlessly. It feels more like "an idea" with a sitar thrown in there.

A solid album that I took far too long to listen to. It's interesting to listen to this. You can hear the beginning of that transition to that suave slicked back radio rock that they absolutely owned in the early 2010's. It is the first time I've heard inconsistancies in their songwriting (album-wise). Going shoulder to shoulder with Homme and a mix of other songwriters just gives this album a feeling like it was put out as an experiment instead of a full package to the fans. ... read more
