•Roughly two years ago Tyler released his Grammy nominated fifth studio album ‘Flower Boy’ where he was much more open and personal than ever before leaving people wondering where he would go with his sound next. Now, Tyler is back with ‘IGOR’ where his sound ranges from soul, psychedelic and experimental hip hop and plenty of synths and pitched up vocals.
•The intro is perfect as it shows you not to expect this to be a normal rap/hip hop album. It has synths, ... read more

•Fishing for Fishies is good. Nothing over exciting but I guess the proper way to describe it is that it boogies. It’s just a very fun and happy project with feel good music. It’s fun, upbeat with great hooks. Although it doesn’t stand out as much as the bands other work that’s okay as it has its purpose.

•I am beyond shocked that Schoolboy Q made an album I did not like. Q attempts to play things safe and ends up with some beyond boring and simplistic production, flows and features. I can still take away a decent few tracks from this however the amount of tracks that fail to have any redeeming qualities is disappointing. With such a mixed bag and a real lack of anything that stands out this will probably be the biggest disappointment of the year.

•Despite my love for Saba, this album is very mediocre as most of the members don’t really have interesting or unique qualities as this project just drags on. Few highlights, mainly just average.

•A stunning sound college of abstract music that truly sets the bar for what almost sounds like a completely new genre of music. Words truly can’t express how this makes me feel it’s just a different type of experience. Expect to see this on my year end list.

•Although I feel this wasn’t as good as her previous record it is still very good and something worth a listen. Some of the instrumentals could use improvement and a bit more structure could help as this album doesn’t come off as abstract to me and feels a bit messy at times.

•2 Chainz is back and as boring as ever. I don’t see much appeal to him. I never have and starting to think I won’t. Only about one track here that doesn’t have a feature holds my interest. This album once again proves that 2 Chainz is better off as a feature on tracks and I don’t even like the idea of that. People like Kendrick Lamar and Ariana Grande just completely steal the tracks and make me wish 2 Chainz wasn’t even on it. Average at ... read more

•The best of the three solo Migos albums to be released although that wasn’t very difficult to accomplish as the other two were pathetic and boring. Offset is very personal on this album and creates some decent music however he isn’t that dynamic and at almost an hour long it stops this album from holding interest.

•Abstract hip hop at it’s finest as this album is just lots of fun with a great length of only about 34 minutes. Even this this project is very predictable it still feels refreshing in a world where trap rules.

•Over the last three weeks Kevin has been slowly rolling out this project, dropping three songs each of the past two weeks before finally releasing the final five tracks with some changes to vocals and track transitions.
•Within the first three tracks there is a very clear Outkast influence as Kevin uses a lot of sounds and flows you would here from André 3000 especially on ‘Joy Ride’. The track ‘Georgia’ is a highlight for me from the first group as the ... read more

•With Cuz I Love You, Lizzo has what is almost like a compilation of pop rap singles that are well written and produced and make for an extremely fun 33 minutes.
•The opening track which is also the title track starts with a great instrumental with powerful vocals coming on top of it. One of the lead singles ‘Juice’ is a fun upbeat track with a catchy hook. My favorite track here is probably ‘Jerome’ as Lizzo’s vocals are very nice on top of a real good ... read more

•Uninterested by her previous music, I am shocked. This album almost leaves me speechless as the unique styled production and soft but emotion filled vocals make me sit back and think.
•For about the first six tracks this album is perfect. The vocal distortion and wild production come similar to something that something like James Blake’s earlier work. The heavy use of bass on a track like ‘xanny’ really brings it alive whereas a slower more depressed darker track ... read more

•Six months ago Anderson released his third studio album Oxnard, which happened to place third on my year end list. Now he is back with Ventura where he is showing that he may just be one of the most versatile and consistent artists around.
•The album opens with ‘Come Home’ where Anderson delivers a captivating hook over a beautiful instrumental to set up the phenomenal verse from André 3000. On ‘Make It Better’ Paak absolutely kills it and really shows ... read more

•UK rapper Little Simz releases an album that can only be described as brilliant. Simz explodes with great production and attacks every track nearly perfect.
•’Offence’ is the opening track and perfectly gives you an idea for the journey you’re about to be on, the line ‘I said it with my chest and I don’t care who I offend’ perfect shows you the unapologetic side of Simz who perfectly follows up the track with ‘Boss’ where the loud ... read more

•Following a successful 2018, Juice Wrld releases a lengthy project with a lot of similar topics and some new styles as well while remaining on the top of what is know of the emo rap scene.
•This album opens near perfect with 5 straight tracks that highlight what makes Juice so popular. With lyrics that can relate to the listener so well on tracks like ‘Empty’ as Juice finds himself empty inside relying on substance abuse and addiction to solve things or on the track ... read more

•Harverd Dropout is about 40 minutes of what seems to be a Migos audition tape where Lil Pump just sounds like an extreme watered down version of Quavo with a sprinkle of the other two.
•The only thing this project has going for it is production. It sounds pretty decent and some of the features are okay but nothing special. Not really a lot of highlights here.
•Pump basically attempts to expand his vocabulary on here with more rapping than usual and some quicker flows than we are ... read more

•Revisiting Drakes breakthrough mixtape 10 years after the initial release. This is my first time hearing this project in its entirety as I have heard songs such as ‘Successful’ and ‘Best I Ever Had’ before but for the most part this is about 15 entirely new tracks for me and after a few listens I can confidently sum it up as overrated, boring and too long.

•Gunna has been one of my favorites as of recently as almost every song and feature I’ve heard him on he has killed. A similar style to Lil Baby and Young Thug with a little difference not to noticeably however. I had high hopes for this project and to me (a gunna fan) I was not disappointed. This project gives some nice production catered to Gunna and is just an overall enjoyment.

•Ariana attempts to capitalize on the success of her previous project here. She continues with the great vocals and production as we have seen before and even throws in some decent flows to appeal to many even with most of them being done before and basically copied as she did on the song ‘7 Rings’
•No features on this allow for Ariana to fully commit to getting personal like on songs like ‘ghostin’ and ‘thank u, next’

•The Life of Pablo is actually one of my favorite Kanye projects. With a decent amount of songs I always find myself coming back to as well as just some of his most experimental songs this project -always has something different to offer me.
•This project sounds rushed, scattered and completely unsure of what it wants to be. I feel this works well however as Kanye can constantly try different sounds and styles in attempt to find something that works and I think he does this well. ... read more
