What makes a project awful? That depends on the context, right? Sam Hunt's Southside sucks because of lackluster instrumentals and creepy lyrics. Tones and I's latest record is bad because the lyrics paint her as an unlikeable person. I can go on and list example after example, but all these projects have an understanding of their genre or music in general. What do you do after making such a weird album as Boarding House Reach? I think this is a question Jack White was asking himself. Especially after a great, if not unsurprising, comeback with the Raconteurs, I was wondering if Boarding House Reach was just a fluke. The first two singles didn't do much to change my mind. They had to take their time to grow on me, due to them feeling like Jack wanted to have it both ways. So after all these fears going in, how did Fear of the Dawn turn out.

I think this is a case of knowing what to expect from a band. The Black Keys is a band I turn to for just fun rock music. Do they make the most original music? No, and I doubt they ever really have, but they consistently deliver songs that are great grooving blues rock tracks. I do think this is mixed significantly better than most of Lets Rock, so that is a plus!
Fivio and Alicia are great, and the Carti Ad-libs are fun, but Kanye feels like the weakest link here. The production also feels kinda underwhelming, especially when you what Kanye can do with drill.
I don't know what to feel about this latest singles from mr. White. Sure, they are listenable and have a solid solo or two, but I can't help but feel that these songs feel messy and just kinda cliché. The riffs are fine, but these weird synth parts completely ruin the song for me. Still looking forward to the release, but not with high expectations.
