Fuck it, 85 - 90. This has been in my rotation enough already that I think its deserving of my aoty so far. Addicting asf, especially Seraphim.
While I'm not a big fan of the indie rock direction its kinda a personal preference for me as I love noise rock way more. Regardless this somehow still pulled me in.
I personally love Star Starers vocals on this a lot. Sometimes awkward or rough but I think it fits the music and the lyrics quite well! I didn't care much for the first half of this album, but holy shit did they cook on the last 2 songs. Incredibly powerful last 2 songs to end off the record. Requiem is easily Soty for me. I just wish the final guitar part on it lasted longer tbh. Star's vocals also shine the best on that track as well imo. (Pun not intended.
I do feel like this record is missing something specific, maybe its the mixing that needed more polish and time but idk. Definitely felt off on my first listen quality wise. I found myself kinda bored on some songs too like the title track and Sleep, Pretty Baby. Other than that, not much else to say.
Thats about it, a little jumbled of a review I know, but I haven't really written any in a while. Tryna get back into the swing of things. The flu kicked my ass last month.
If you enjoy willyrodriguez or especially chamber pop, you'll find a lot to enjoy on Hell For a Basement! A solemnly beautiful work from Drug Bug.
