La Dispute - No One Was Driving the Car

GUYS WTF
This is my first La Dispute album, and if I was this blown away by this album I'm scared what I'm going to experience when listening to Wildlife

But yeah this album is awesome. It helps that I'm really into everything the album does. The screams? Awesome. The noisy and layered instrumentation? Incredible. I just love how this album feels like the end of the world or something. Songs like Top-Sellers Banquet or Environmental Catastrophe Film give this album such an ... read more

Big Thief - Double Infinity

Well, I was really excited for this and unfortunately my expectations might have been too high :(

Don't get me wrong, this is still pretty good. But it feels too polished for a Big Thief album. In my opinion Adriannes voice thrives when it's surrounded by rougher production. Here everything is so smooth with literally almost no rough edges that it doesn't even feel like a Big Thief album at first.
Among other problems is the absence of variety, due to which many songs sound ... read more

Joey Valence & Brae - HYPERYOUTH

This to me is the perfect example of a fun as fuck album. While the slower and more mellow songs they go for don't really work for me, there's not that many of them, so the overall impression of the album is still very positive. Probably the biggest ass shaker this year, I couldn't resist bopping my head while listening to this for the first time and then listening to this again at home and dancing like a madman. I really like the funny pop+culture references, I like how this ... read more

Tropical Fuck Storm - Fairyland Codex

This is my first exposure to these guys and I was kinda expecting something really light and funny...and well that is not what I got to say the least. This album goes insanely hard, musically it is so so vibrant and unique on most tracks and the sound of this record doesn't get stale or old for a second. It is a very strange and cryptic study on how "society" functions and it just so happens to be both compelling and very fun. Although I prefer the female vocalist I gotta give ... read more

Men I Trust - Equus Caballus

I really like the sound that they go for, it's simple yet very pleasant to hear. Not the best thing I've heard this year, but it was still good enough to add most of the album to my playlist and get some enjoyment out of it, probably will check out more of their stuff.

key vs. locket - i felt like a sketch

this album is so comfy I don't care what critiques u have to offer, I love love this

HAIM - I quit
70

The highs are pretty high, but the lows are so low 😭
While the production is super basic, I still like it. Same goes for the vocals, they are nothing special, but pleasant enough for me to like them.

That being said, I really can't say anything about this album that's really bad or good. I just found most things pretty okay. The theme of every single song is relationships so it does get tiring with time because unfortunately the songwriting isn't strong enough to make every ... read more

Quedronol - Together

If this was Vanisher, Horizon Scraper I would have given this a 93

But it's not, and that's good. Honestly I thought my expectations for something of this genre are way too high after listening to Quadeca, but this album still managed to surprise me. I really love the use of acoustic guitars on this album, they make for some gorgeous melodies and a very intimate feeling. The guy has a great, soft voice that enhances that feeling even further. And when u get to the more wild tracks ... read more

Since I've never heard Ants From Up There I don't have this mindset where I compare the two.

With that said, this album destroyed me emotionally and physically. Every note, every word carries so much emotion and it's honestly at times overwhelming. Call It Easy genuinely had me on the floor from how beautiful and grand it was but at the same time I cried so hard because of how tragic the lyrics are.

Every song feels so different, yet all of them are so incredible and lush in ... read more

Conan Gray - Wishbone

might be his best album?? definitely his most interesting instrumental effort, but still not like incredible stuff

Deafheaven - Lonely People With Power
90

okay so no joke while I was listening to this I was having a walk in the park and a lady came up to me to lecture me about God and invite me to their church. if only she knew what unholy sounds were blasting in my headphones when she came up to me...

But no joke this is incredible. I usually hate this type of music so it's weird to say that I love this album to death and this will probably serve as a gateway for me to get into the genre

Freddie Gibbs - Alfredo 2
70

I must say...I don't really get it 😭🙏
I listened to this album 3 times already, and I still find it really repetitive and sleepy. Like I almost fell asleep listening to it while sitting on a bench outside. And here I think the sleepiness of the album is kind of a plus. It's really well-produced and chill, but to me, unfortunately this sounds more like background music than something I will listen to while not doing nothing else

Conan Gray - Found Heaven
70

Okay so used to hate it but honestly it's not THAT bad. It's quirky, silly and very groovy. It kinda took a lot of elements I liked on both of his previous albums. The album feels much more like an experience and less like just a product and has the same emotional openness that his previous album had. It's cool to see Conan doing something like this since I think he wanted to for a long time. But well the results are of varying quality. I really like the more danceable tracks, ... read more

Conan Gray - Superache
78

Idk what some of u are on about. Yeah it's predictable and generic but unlike his other stuff I actually felt something while listening to it. Kid Krow to me was a soulless and boring pop album. And while many problems that were present on Kid Krow are present here, like the basic and boring instrumentation, the songs being too long, I still can't help but really like this. The vocals are still too filtered at times, but are much more impressive and expressive, the whole album feels ... read more

Conan Gray - Kid Krow

Is it generic? Yup. Is it cringe at times? Big yes. But is it still enjoyable? Yeah I guess.
I kinda like Conan most when he uses electric guitars in his songs, they aren't anything special, but they somehow complement his way of writing and their absence is kinda noticeable to me I guess??? Either way, fine album, nothing special

Everyone Asked About You - Let's Be Enemies
75

While most songs do feel very similar, the combination of the raspy and the gentle vocals with the messy production really does something for me

DITZ - Never Exhale
78

An incredible mood setter. This album just feels evil, dark and really fucked, all while having surprisingly vibrant melodies and going incredibly hard.

clipping. - Dead Channel Sky
75

Well...might not have been the best clipping album to start their discography with. This has too many interludes that kinda do more harm than good for the album. There are some songs that are insane, but the amount of just okay ones is almost the same. Biggest crime of the album was making Go so short, that minute had such a cool melody I wish it wasn't shorter than even some of the interludes.

Tyler, The Creator - DON'T TAP THE GLASS
80

It's kinda weird to see a Tyler album without the "Must Hear" label, but yeah this album is noticeably weaker than his work of the few last years. And yet Tyler just having fun with his music and experimenting with some stuff feels perfect after how serious Chromakopia was. I couldn't stop shaking mad ass even while on the bus when listening to this and that's exactly what Tyler was going for, so I would say that this album easily succeeds in what Tyler made it for. ... read more
